Bret's actions
Climate + Air
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Compost Food Waste
Food in the landfill is one of the main sources of greenhouse gasses. I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Action Track: Community
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Bret Larson 4/30/2024 4:15 AMTook my first family bike ride yesterday outside and it was great! Spent additional 2 hours outside than i otherwise normally would. Great family time! -
Bret Larson 4/29/2024 1:34 AMFinally bought a bike to prepare for next month's 'Bike to Work' challenge with the team in Baar. After just a couple days i am quickly realizing this was something i should have switched to for getting around Zug much much earlier in my time here!-
John Nita 4/29/2024 3:23 AMCongratulations Bret and welcome to the (bicycling) team!

Bret Larson 4/26/2024 1:15 AMBeen a tough month of travel and wasn't able to build the habits i had the ambition for at the beginning of the competition. Not sure how the rest of you do it with the travel! Returned home yesterday and spent the evening outside with the fam and my mother-in-law arrived while i was out travelling and she comes from a background and part of the world where you would never waste a single scrap of food... my fridge was full of dishes and food i am sure we would have otherwise gone to compost... good role model for me!-
Ulrika Lindstrom 4/26/2024 2:28 AMThis is insightful, we have a lot to learn from our parents and grandparents when it comes to food waste!

Bret Larson 4/15/2024 4:23 AMOne observation i have had as i travel the world is that certain aspects of sustainability are truly taking hold. I am in Austin, TX this week and it standard items like place to recycle most of the refuse associated with dining (i.e. foot waste, PET recycyling, etc.) is quite ubiquitous now. While more common and readily available across Europe, seeing it in the US so prevalent is a reinforcing sign of change. -
Bret Larson 4/12/2024 1:57 AMArrived back in the US yesterday and was welcomed by flash flooding in the area... not typical for this location. A very strong reminder of the very real climate change. Brings the importance of change home.-
Edgardo V. Chiari M. 4/12/2024 3:03 AMClimate Change... is a reality. More and more we have "signs" / "alerts" from Earth. -
Dhandapani Janarthanan 4/12/2024 2:03 AMits warning from nature... we have to be very careful...

Bret Larson 4/10/2024 11:36 PMWorked on reducing food waste last night with my family... smaller portions and ensuring everything was finished. Seems like something we could continue reducing with a good family habit.-
Alexander König 4/11/2024 2:20 AMI do similar. I first fill the plates of the kids before I do with mine, so I have time to see how much they leave and then finish their plates before preparing myself another one... :-)

Bret Larson 4/10/2024 12:07 AMLot of travel this month... i have green guilt from the carbon footprint... anyone else feel that?-
Teodora Takacs 4/16/2024 10:31 AMYes, unfortunately. But I am hopeful that the focus we have now on the NetZero RLP and BA program, will help us make smarter decision as we progress. -
Tünde Benő 4/10/2024 12:49 PMWhen I travel I try to combine air with public transport, fly where is needed and take just 1 flight, than train, but still a lot of time to organize. -
Michel Ngamo 4/10/2024 1:25 AMHi Bret, we should be able to decorrelate carbon that we emit because of business trips (part of our company carbon footprint reduction strategy) and our personal carbon footprint ?!
Feeling a bit better? :)
