Today I paid a visit to the glass container and I got really sad when I saw this. So many people still throwing their garbage next to the containers and not respecting the basic rules of glss recycling, like not leaving the plastic cover on and cleaning the food contents from the jars. This is why it’s important to continue raising awareness and talk about the importance of individual responsibility in the big scheme of things.

I also used to find it frustrating when whole batches of recycled materials would have to be rejected because of contaminated- like you have here with plastic in glass.
Sadly then to landfill in some cases.
Good to keep raising awareness Teo

I joined the EcoChallenge webinar today and learned something really interesting from one of the panel speakers who works with companies in open innovation projects. NASA launched a challenge called the LunaRecycle Challenge, a $3 million, two track, two-phase competition focused on the design and development of recycling solutions that can reduce solid waste and improve the sustainability of longer-term lunar missions. Never though about sustainability on the moon until today :) https://www.nasa.gov/prizes-challenges-and-crowdsourcing/centennial-challenges/lunarecycle/

Thanks for sharing Teo. I know many aren't fans of Elon these days, but I think part of his SpaceX mission was to do the same. About a year ago I was talking to a kid that was looking to go into Aerospace and he told me all about how amazing SpaceX was due to their technology and focus on sustainable space travel. I'll have to read about the nasa challenge.

My carbon footprint is negatively impacted when I travel by plane. This year I managed to reduce my air travel and drove an electric car as much as I could. I hope to be able to keep this trend.

On our hike today we discovered this research area from the University of Hasselt, Belgium, so learned something new. The UHasselt Ecotron is a large scale research infrastructure that allows for sophisticated state-of-the-art controlled climate experiments, to study the effects of climate, and climate change on ecosystem functioning. It provides insight into the impact of climate on a given ecosystem that cannot be gained by field experiments (too complex) neither controlled laboratory experiments (too reductive).

Today I researched a bit about the negative effects that leisure boats have on the environment. Too often, tourists prefer to hop on a boat instead of exploring the new areas on foot, which is not only better for the environment but also way more enjoyable and interesting. We walked almost 30km in the last 3 days and saw beautiful places and nature. Really recommend the Cochem Germany area, but please explore by bike or on foot, not in a polluting boat.

Great tip! We often look for bike tours when we go on a city break. It's a great eco friendly way to see the sights and the extra calories burnt means you can enjoy a guilt free ice cream or in my case beer :-)

A nice way of explaining to children how windmills produce our daily energy, seen on our way to Geierlay, the longest hanging bridge in Germany. I was proud to be able to explain to my son that Emerson also offers solutions that go into generating renewable energy. Go sustainability!
