Andreea's actions

Action Track: Community

Borrow Before I Buy

Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON

I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN

I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR

On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Weekly Meal Planning

One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.

COMPLETED 25
DAILY ACTIONS

Freshwater + Oceans

Go Plastic-Free

Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.

COMPLETED 25
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Explore My Area

When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 60 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Cooking Oil Disposal

Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.

COMPLETED 22
DAILY ACTIONS

Action Track: Community

Keep My Community Clean

At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.

COMPLETED 23
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Use Public Transit

Public transportation reduces pollution, improves community, and creates safe streets. I will use public transit 3 miles per day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.

COMPLETED 20
DAILY ACTIONS

Freshwater + Oceans

Join a Cleanup Effort

I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

Plant Trees

Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 5 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.

ONE-TIME ACTION

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

I want to share with you a sad fact about picking up any litter I see.
I start to clean around my home area everytime I'm out with my dog. Usually I fill up a small bag, which is a lot for a small area.
The sad part is that every day I find new garbage/ trash on the same place/ street... :(

The last days I wasn't very productive with my actions. :(
This rainy weather is giving me 5% energy.
    What about you?

This Saturday I participated in my first plant trees activity with a lot of Emerson coworkers.
Was an amazing experience and I am happy that I helped nature a little bit.
    Who else has been there?

Congrats and thank you to all participating in this and other plant tree events! Trees are so important for our ecosystem, and forests have been exploited since long time, in addition to many illnesses our trees have nowadays. Great to see so many volunteers making a difference!

Action Track: Community Borrow Before I Buy
How did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?

    Andreea Wolanski's avatar
    Andreea Wolanski 4/12/2024 5:28 AM
I was thinking that I spend a lot of money on event dresses so, I spoke with my best friend and I asked her if I could borrow some dresses for this year's events ( mostly weddings ) and without any doubt she said: YES!
So NO material wasting, no money wasting, and a lot of time saved.

    This weekend was very relaxing.
Saturday I just read, crocheted, and enjoyed the time in the house because was very rainy outside.
Sunday was my exploring day and with a few friends, we took a short trip to the Cheile Turzii, zipline.
I loved the experience and the vibe. You have places where you can sit, drink a cup of lemonade and relax.
    How was your Weekend?

Yesterday was a little bit cold and I didn't have the chance to explore any new areas :( I'll try later today.

Day 3 seems fun and easy. Especially because is very sunny ♥
I am sad that I cannot add reflection each day to a specific daily action. In my opinion, it's easy for people to follow what I'm talking about if the main question/ subject appears.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Freshwater + Oceans Cooking Oil Disposal
Did anything about this action surprise you? Do you use more or less oil than you thought?

    Andreea Wolanski's avatar
    Andreea Wolanski 4/03/2024 4:31 AM
I am ashamed but a long time ago I was pouring the oil in the sink.
For a few years, I've "recycled" the oil after I cook into a plastic bottle of 1 or 2 liters and I'm going to one of our local supermarkets. They are giving you something in exchange for that oil: like dish soap, body soap, or anything for house usage.
I think is a good idea to reduce oil wasting and to save the planet.
If you're interested, Auchan is the name of the Supermarket.

Where did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?

I have been to Hoia Baciu forest near Cluj.
It is a quiet place and ignoring all the horror stories about this forest being haunted, I can say that is very beautiful.
    I'll be back.
The benefits? Well, for me was relaxing and peaceful.
