Miroslav's actions
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 240 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Land + Forests
Compost Food Waste
Food in the landfill is one of the main sources of greenhouse gasses. I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Freshwater + Oceans
Low Water Gardening
Grass lawns are water-intensive and on average require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. Native plants are water-efficient and help maintain the balance and diversity of local ecosystems. I will plant native species with water-efficient plants to conserve water and improve the habitat, then post a photo on the feed to share.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Freshwater + Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Miroslav Považai 4/28/2024 10:16 PMHi,
I want to share with you 1 important eco-target.
I have water collection for 1000l in my discard tank. I collect the water from 1 side roof - 70m2.
It´s very beneficial for our planting. Generally is enough for 85% consumpted water during season.
In the next year, I want to invest for another one.
Finally, I´m really happy, that I´m not only one, who is using this type.
Water protection is most important ECO-CHALLENGE for next generations!
-
Lenka Karetkova 4/30/2024 1:22 AMhope you'll keep it after eco challenge :)

Miroslav Považai 4/28/2024 2:59 AMHi,
I want to post my planting of radish. Even it´s only late April, but our radish is growing.
It´s really healthy vegetables. .
I still try to post benefits from vegetable:
Radishes contain antioxidants like catechin, pyrogallol, vanillic acid, and other phenolic compounds. Antioxidants are molecules that fight free radicals in your body. Free radical compounds have been linked with many diseases, including cancer. Radishes also have a lot of vitamin C, which protects your cells from damage.

Lenka Karetkova 4/28/2024 12:14 PMyummy, love radish! -
Ina Scholz 4/28/2024 5:04 AMI love radishes .. how great to have them in your own garden! 👏 -

Miroslav Považai 4/26/2024 10:19 PMRecycling part 4.
Hi everyone,
I want to share my best practice with recycling tyres. I had remaining 4 tyres for waste and missing place for cultivating beneficial plant. I combined both things.
Of course, I add some important article from www.webmd.com:
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is an herb from the mint family. The leaves, which have a mild lemon aroma, are used to make medicine and flavor foods.
Lemon balm contains chemicals that seem to have a sedative and calming effect. It might also reduce the growth of some viruses and bacteria.
People use lemon balm for cold sores, anxiety, stress, insomnia, indigestion, dementia, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support many of these uses.

Pavan Prakash 4/26/2024 10:33 PMWow, Great Idea 👏 -

Miroslav Považai 4/26/2024 1:16 AMRecycling part 3.
We just finished with my wife ,,new" table for coffee/tea/juice from not used coil for electrical cable. I hope for the future, it will no longer be necessary to use wooden coils, another alternative must be found.

Miroslav Považai 4/24/2024 10:17 PMHi everyone,
I want to share my house of birds in my garden. It´s especially beneficial in spring. When you sit under the trees and relax with your family.
-
Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/25/2024 9:53 AMMiro, you've done it again! Your birdhouse is not just a marvel of craftsmanship, but a haven for our feathered friends. 🐦🛠️ It’s wonderful to think of the melodies they’ll add to your family’s moments of relaxation under the trees. You’re creating more than just structures; you’re engineering ecosystems. Bravo! 🌳💚#GardenEngineering #BirdhouseBliss -

Miroslav Považai 4/23/2024 10:04 PMHi everyone,
I just wanted to post one important point, possibility to recycle all organic waste. I really appreciate to show you my solution, which helps us using whole year and of course as a preparation for following planting. :-)
Finally, add some very amazing article from gardenersworld.com:
Compost is nature's gift to your garden, a rich blend of nutrients that not only nourishes your plants but serves as an ideal fertiliser, organic mulch, and soil improver. Making your own compost is both a rewarding and sustainable practice that allows you to recycle garden and kitchen waste to provide your plants with the essential elements they crave.
Simply put your garden waste and some kitchen waste into a compost bin and it will break down over a year or so to reveal fresh, home-made compost. If you're looking for a compost bin for your garden they come in a range of shapes, sizes, and prices.
-
Miroslav Považai 4/24/2024 2:55 AMThank you Ioana for support
-
Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/24/2024 1:57 AMMiro, your ingenuity never ceases to amaze! 🌟 Your organic waste recycling solution is impressive and truly embodies the spirit of sustainability. It's fantastic to see such creativity in action, turning everyday waste into rich compost for the next planting season. Thanks for the inspiration and the helpful article from Gardeners World! 🌱♻️#SustainableSolutions #CompostCreativity

Miroslav Považai 4/23/2024 12:01 AMSUSTAINABILITY- endurance and responsibility
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to post progress about ,,common cultivation". I tried to explain to my ,,new generation" how important is responsibility after planting - there is no result without effort, you have to take care of it.
All I want to explain with this, is the similarity with our daily efforts at Emerson - to maintain and improve applied things.-
Lenka Karetkova 4/25/2024 5:29 AMYour kids are inspiration for others 🎈🌵🌼🌻 -
Miroslav Považai 4/23/2024 2:59 AMThank you for support :-) -
Alexander König 4/23/2024 2:57 AMLooks amazing! And is actually quite a large greenhouse that you have! Crossing my fingers for you to have a rich harvest!

Miroslav Považai 4/20/2024 11:22 PMRecycling
Reuse is very important, especially in these times when we are facing climate change. My family and I reused empty packaging from metal tubes. We planted strawberries. It is very practical, with a good access to cultivation. At the same time, much less water is used, which would simply flow into the ground. It's a win-win for both parties - for Emerson and for us. We are already impatiently waiting for a tasty harvest.
-
Miroslav Považai 4/21/2024 10:15 PMThank you. Recycling is really important, but best would be - creating any waste. Unfortunately is not possible now, but we have to start think in this way now and not later. -
Ina Scholz 4/21/2024 12:46 PMGreat, Miro! I am thinking about creating a raised bed on my balcony! Strawberries would be my first choice! 😋🍓 -
Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/21/2024 12:17 AMLove the creativity, Miro! 🍓 It's great to see how you're making the most out of materials, conserving water, and waiting “with patience” for your harvest. Your approach is inspiring and really shows how small actions can make a big impact. 🌱💧 ♻️

Miroslav Považai 4/14/2024 12:30 PMHi, I just want to share, what is important from my point of view. Above all, it is neccesary to pass on the experience to children and young people. Finally, this action and aim is the same for our community on a daily bases. :-)-
Daniela Embree 4/18/2024 11:20 AMThat's so true, Miro. Thank you for reminding us of that! :) -
Miroslav Považai 4/15/2024 12:48 AMThanks to all of you. It´s a nice encouragement for the future.
-
Alexander König 4/15/2024 12:36 AMVery nice! Yes, we can be a good example and the youngsters will take over. And at the end... all our efforts today are for the next generations. -
Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/15/2024 12:17 AMAbsolutely, Miro! Sharing these valuable experiences with children is crucial for nurturing their connection to nature and understanding of community responsibility. The photo of your son planting is heartwarming and embodies the essence of passing on knowledge and values. Keep leading by example; it's actions like these that build a better future. 👨👦🌱 🌍#FutureGeneration #CommunityValues -
