RITIKA's actions
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Action Track: Community
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 1 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Freshwater + Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Action Track: Community
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

RITIKA PAWAR 4/30/2024 3:01 AMLearnt something new this month and would like to share.
An alternate name for planet Earth, as well as the Latin name for the planet. It is "Terra" (mythology), primeval Roman goddess.-

RITIKA PAWAR 4/25/2024 10:06 AMWe planted few seeds with my 16 months old daughter who absolutely loved it. She even started saying the word "POT" for the very first time while we were planting.
Can't imagine how these small moments make some golden memories.-

RITIKA PAWAR 4/19/2024 6:15 AMHousehold Waste Facts
- Around 30 million tonnes of household waste is generated in the UK every year, of which 5.9 million tonnes is packaging
- We throw away more than 7 million tonnes of food and drink every year from our homes - most of which could have been safely consumed.
- In total, a staggering 6.6 million tonnes of food waste comes from our homes each year in the UK, at a cost of £14 billion. Of that, 4.5 million tonnes is food that could have been eaten, which works out to around eight meals per household each week. This ‘edible’ element of household food waste is responsible for 14 million tonnes of CO2e alone - as much greenhouse gas produced as flying from London to Perth more than 4.5 million times.
- t is estimated that around 600 million tonnes of products and materials enter the UK economy each year… only 115 million tonnes of this gets recycled
- If every Briton purchased one item made from recycled wool a year it would save 371 million gallons of water, 480 tonnes of chemical dyes and 4571 million days of an average family's electricity needs
- Every tonne of paper recycled saves 17 trees
-
RITIKA PAWAR 4/18/2024 3:40 AMSomething we managed to get for our lunch & learn session and glad to share it with everyone here.
Plastic recycling facts
- 1,135,000 tonnes of plastic packaging was recycled in 2019 (UK)
- In 2019, plastic packaging collected from households accounts for just over 49% of the UK's total recycled plastics
- An estimated 13 billion plastic bottles are disposed of each year
- 1 tonne = 25,000 plastic bottles
- A pair of jeans could include an average of 8 recycled plastic bottles.
- It takes 75% less energy to make a plastic bottle from recycled plastic compared with using ‘virgin’ materials
- 25 recycled PET bottles can be used to make an adult's fleece jacket
- Recycling 1 tonne of plastic bottles saves 1.5 tonne of carbon
- 2,290,000 tonnes of plastic packaging consumed in the UK, of which 1,447,000 tonnes are from households

RITIKA PAWAR 4/17/2024 3:03 AMWe encouraged our staff to introduce Eco Challenge to there family and also bring awareness about sustainability of our planet.
To do this we came up with a fun family activity/ challenge, where the whole family can come together to make a poster, bird feeder, plant trees or use waste to create best art.
We had an amazing response , see the pics attached.-
