  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate + Air Calculate My Carbon Impact
Where in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?

    Clarissa Matriz's avatar
    Clarissa Matriz 4/30/2024 1:59 AM
My carbon emission mostly comes from energy usage at home and consumption habits. To reduce these, I will make some changes in my daily life:
    a. Since I mostly spend my time at home, I will conserve more energy by turning off lights when not in use and start being mindful of appliances I buy by utilizing more energy-efficient appliances.
    b. I will practice recycling and reusing more to minimize waste and reduce emissions associated with production and disposal. And, I will avoid single-use items.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate + Air Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
How did it feel to intentionally declutter with putting things into the landfill? What did you learn along the way about yourself and our consumer and waste systems?

    Clarissa Matriz's avatar
    Clarissa Matriz 4/26/2024 11:03 AM
While decluttering can be fulfilling, it also raises a personal awareness of my consumption habits. I realized how much our consumerism culture encourages accumulation without considering the long-term consequences. While doing so, I discovered the significance of mindful consumption, opting for quality over quantity and embracing a more minimalist lifestyle.

It's encouraging to witness how this challenge serves as a catalyst for many of us to embrace an eco-friendly lifestyle. Undoubtedly, initiating and ingraining new habits poses a challenge, but the rewards make it entirely worthwhile. ♡
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

    Clarissa Matriz's avatar
    Clarissa Matriz 4/24/2024 12:24 AM
While doing these challenges for the past few weeks, it drew to me that I was particularly called to work on fostering sustainable practices and lifestyle choices. As someone who is a maximalist, I realized how much this lifestyle is impacting the environment. From there forward, I will practice mindful consumption, choosing eco-friendly products and slowly embracing minimalism. This will not be easy but I know that it will be worth it.

Same here Clarissa, from Maximalist to Minimalist. And I agree with you, this will not be easy but I know that it will be worth it :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Use Reusable Bags
How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

    Clarissa Matriz's avatar
    Clarissa Matriz 4/23/2024 7:04 AM
Using reusable bags wasn't too difficult once it became your habit. The initial challenge was remembering to bring it along when buying something, but as I integrated it into my routine, it became second nature. I am glad I did it as I minimized the packaging waste I generated.

      IULIA CADAR 4/23/2024 7:12 AM
You are so right. For me as well, so difficult to remember that I needed a bag, but in time, I made some strategies by using shopping baskets and carrying them directly to the car, and afterward at home to pick them up directly from the car. Or if I was going without the car to do the groceries, I took only the necessaries, that could be carried out by hand.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Carry My Trash
This is no small task! What was eye-opening to you throughout this action? How will you change your actions going forward to reduce the waste you produce?

    Clarissa Matriz's avatar
    Clarissa Matriz 4/23/2024 6:56 AM
Carrying my non-compostable trash wherever I go was eye-opening because it reveals the volume of waste I generate. Moving forward, I will be more mindful of my packaging choices, prioritize reusable items, and use products with minimal packaging. I will also be diligent in recycling.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Freshwater + Oceans Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning
What did you learn about ingredients in our cleaning products and how they impact water and biodiversity? Did you try making your own cleaning products? If so, how did it go?

    Clarissa Matriz's avatar
    Clarissa Matriz 4/23/2024 6:45 AM
There are ingredients in cleaning products that can impact water and biodiversity negatively due to the toxins and pollutants they release. It is a good thing there are a lot of eco friendly alternatives that are readily available in our own pantries like baking soda and vinegar that are as effective as those commercial products we are already using.

    • Lisa Howe's avatar
      Lisa Howe 4/23/2024 6:47 AM
Baking soda and vinegar not only are fun to use but there is no terrible chemical smell and the results are gleamingly clean.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Freshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water Bottle
What did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?

    Clarissa Matriz's avatar
    Clarissa Matriz 4/05/2024 9:24 AM
I've learned about the increasing amount of plastic consumption, and I wanted to reduce my usage of plastic by opting for reusable alternatives, avoiding single-use plastic products, and properly recycling any plastic waste that I generate.
