PALOMA's actions
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 1 hours in my community.
Action Track: Community
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 30 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 15 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Land + Forests
Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper
Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. Buying products that help protect forests makes a difference. I will only purchase wood, furniture, and paper products from ecologically certified sources such as Forest Stewardship Council.
Land + Forests
Personal Waste Audit
The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Climate + Air
Use Public Transit
Public transportation reduces pollution, improves community, and creates safe streets. I will use public transit 7 miles per day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Climate + Air
Low Carbon Diet
Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Reduce Animal Products
One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 2 vegan meals each day this week.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Action Track: Community
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Personal Waste AuditWhat are the results of your waste audit and what did you learn? How can you reduce your waste going forward?
PALOMA ESCALONA 4/30/2024 1:07 AMKeep practicing the 3Rs. My goal is to keep continue focusing on Reduce by minimizing the amount of waste generated by being mindful of my consumption habits. Avoid buying unnecessary items and opt for products with minimal packaging. Actually, my goal is to buy in bulk bringing my own reusable containers to refill items such as grains, pasta, spices, and detergents at bulk stores or refill stations. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Explore My AreaWhere did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?
PALOMA ESCALONA 4/21/2024 10:40 AMPlan ahead by considering your daily activities and identifying potential sources of waste. Starting for breakfast using options like fruit and home made bread and granola. I was walking wit the dog and took with me coffe thermo. Throughout the day, I was mindful of single-use items and avoid them whenever possible. Refuse plastic straws, utensils, cups, and bags, and instead use reusable bags taken from home. Say no to unnecessary packaging and opt for products with minimal or recyclable packaging. I was choosing eco-friendly options and support businesses that prioritize sustainability in madrid there are a lot of options second hand clothes. Stay hydrated throughout the day with water from a reusable bottle or hydration pack. :-)-
Tünde Benő 4/21/2024 10:46 AMGreat job! Thanks for shareing!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Sustainability Lunch and LearnWho did you engage in your lunch and learn? What resources did you use? How did it go and what did you learn?
PALOMA ESCALONA 4/21/2024 10:30 AMDuring the weekend, i prepared prepared and invite my neighbors for sustainable home made lunch. I have chosen fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins that are in season and locally sourced whenever possible. This reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation and supports local farmers and producers. Menu was a salad, sandwiches, wraps and soups using fresh, whole ingredients. Not only is homemade food typically healthier, but it also reduces packaging waste. Eat mindfully -Take time to savor and enjoy your lunch mindfully, whether you're eating at home, at work, or on the go. Appreciate the flavors, textures, and nutritional benefits of your meal, and be grateful for the opportunity to nourish your body in a sustainable way. Very nice time!-
Alexandra Sabau 4/21/2024 11:35 PMIt sounds like you had a very nice brunch with your neighbors! :) We're planning to host something similar with my colleagues tomorrow at work.

PALOMA ESCALONA 4/11/2024 1:55 AMAs you can see in my feed, I live in Madrid downtown. Fortunately, I am located in an area named Madrid 360 Sustainable Mobility plan. This strategy pursues a markedly intermodal mobility system, which enables the distribution of the current and future demand among all modes of transport, to respond before 2030 in order to achieve four ambitious objectives: a 20% to 25% reduction in traffic, which means a notable reduction in congestion that affects the mobility of the city and 65% CO2 emissions reduction by 2030. Residents are part of this strategy and developing Eco- culture habits in terms of mobility.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Borrow Before I BuyHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
PALOMA ESCALONA 4/07/2024 1:59 AMFashion- I use specific platforms and shops allowing to share clothing with those who might need it. Also visiting second hand cloth shops is common practice, i am doing since few years ago. Let´s reduce consumption and buy only what is really need.-
Simona Pantelimon 4/07/2024 11:40 AMAre those platforms local or EU wide? Would love some tips!
