Land + Forests Zero Waste Day
What was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?

Zero Waste is very, very difficult these days. Many of our items are kept in single use items or a single use item themselves. In the kitchen, bathroom and other rooms around the house, being mindful about what is being used is key.

I don't think I'll be able to complete all of the sustainability goals I set out to do before the end of this month, but I'm glad to have dedicated energy towards being more mindful and look forward to continuing the initiative!

I had no idea that the dishwasher was more efficient than hand washing dishes; I always assumed that it used more resources. Now I know! :)

Freshwater + Oceans Understand My Water Footprint
What did you learn about your water footprint and what are you going to do to reduce and be aware of the water you use?

    Keyla Ahrens 4/25/2024 6:06 AM
Learning about my water footprint highlighted the broader impact of my daily activities on water usage, extending beyond direct consumption to include embedded water in products and food. To reduce and be more aware of my water usage, I plan to implement simple yet impactful changes such as fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, and opting for water-efficient products.

Climate + Air Consume only Needs vs Wants
Consuming only what we need vs. what we want can be really hard to do. What has been challenging about committing to this action for a month? What have you learned about yourself? Will you change any habits going forward?

    Keyla Ahrens's avatar
    Keyla Ahrens 4/24/2024 7:07 AM
For me, one of the biggest challenges in committing to consuming only what I need versus what I want for a month has been the constant battle with instant gratification. It's easy to justify indulging in wants when they're readily available, especially in today's consumer-driven society. Resisting that urge and sticking to a more minimalist approach requires conscious effort and discipline.

Moving forward, I plan to change some of my habits. I want to focus more on mindful consumption, considering the environmental and ethical implications of what I buy. I also aim to prioritize experiences over material possessions, finding joy in simple pleasures rather than constantly chasing after the next shiny thing. It's a journey of self-discovery and growth, and I'm excited to continue exploring it.

Land + Forests Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

It makes you take notice of your environment. You see what people are doing to it by throwing litter and trash, and it makes you feel connected to protecting the earth.
