It's nice to think that from now on, I won't see any trash driving into our office!

Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Join a Cleanup EffortHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel? What results did you see? Please consider posting a photo of your cleanup!
Leo Le Hir de Fallois 4/23/2024 9:37 AMWorking with others to clean up our local area felt very rewarding, and physically seeing the amount of trash picked-up really put into perspective just how much pollution is out there.
It's nice to think that from now on, I won't see any trash driving into our office! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water BottleWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Leo Le Hir de Fallois 4/05/2024 8:50 AMI've always used a reusable bottle, but this week I though about how many plastic bottles I would've used otherwise. I estimated I would fill around one of those small blue recycling cans with bottles every work week. To limit further use of plastic I will use reusable grocery bags, and continue to use my reusable water bottle! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Cooking Oil DisposalDid anything about this action surprise you? Do you use more or less oil than you thought?
Leo Le Hir de Fallois 4/01/2024 7:22 AMI found out that cooking oil should be thrown away in the trash, not only because it is horrible for your drains but also for the environment. To properly dispose of it, let the oil solidify first before throwing it away.
