  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Biodiversity and Wildlife
What lights did you reduce or change, and how might this help wildlife near you?

The lights that I reduced were one in the front of my house, the patio light, and indoor lights. My family and I usually leave the front porch light on but lately I realized we don't necessarily need it once everyone is all home and asleep, same goes for the patio light in the back of the house. My siblings have a habit of just turning on the lights in the morning, but I've been opening up the curtains a lot more for natural light in the mornings and afternoons. I think this helps wildlife near me because it helps save migratory birds and reduces light pollution.

I helped with beach clean ups in my area. Participating sets a good example for other beachgoers, and sharing my time helped me feel connected with other volunteers.

When I first started the challenge I had to consciously choose to do each task, especially with saving water. Over time, it became more of a habit, which made me happy that I was making a difference without thinking too much about it.

It's nice to see how everyone shares a little bit about their day or their thoughts on improving the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What story did you share, and how did it feel to share it? Did telling or hearing resilience stories shift how you think about strength and adaptability?

One action I did, which isn't too hard for me, is just cut back on laundry - where shirts for a couple of days, putting jeans in the freezer instead of washing them etc. Another way I save water is collect the shower water while it is warming up, and turn off the water while I am shamplling, etc.

I spent some time learning about grey water and what I am allowed to install in my community. One thing I learned is that you don't let grey water sit, and you don't use it to water below-ground vegies like carrots, just above ground produce, There are systems with filters and pumps that can deliver filtered grey water to your garden.
