Of course, cigarette butts are the most common trash that we picked-up (isn't a good idea to add a specific clean-up tax to the price of each cigarette?). the most uncommon trash is actually old bikes that people abandon alongside the streets because they don't want to pay the small fees at the recycling center.

Crazy isn't it. With all the added costs Julian mentions in his post, its ironic that we can leave metal out on the streets for scrap metal collectors to remove. In Nottingham, it can be relied upon as a regular and reliable service.

      Interesting your comment about bikes
Currently our local recycling/waste centre does not charge to drop off household waste - only commercial waste or vans/trailers
There is a move to introduce charges for all drop offs and i wonder what impact that might have on fly-tipping and dumping

This year our energy supplier (WWZ) has installed smart meters inside our building and now we can track our energy consumption almost in real time. Being able to monitor our consumption at this granularity offers great opportunities to reduce further our carbon footprint. next step will be to track major energy consumption drivers inside home such as heating's , and key equipments'.

the global warming is affecting water access in Zug canton with episodes of drought and flood depending on the year. this put the resource of the administration under pressure since various infrastructures are impacted during flooding. These are resources that will not be available for social and healthcare issues. Therefore the most vulnerable are impacted one way or another.

We have decided to get rid of all of our kitchenware made using pfas. PFAS(per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of man-made chemicals used since the 1940s in many consumer products because they resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water. In kitchenware, PFAS are most commonly associated with nonstick coatings. We are switching to uncoated stainless steel, cast iron, or carbon steel — these materials have no PFAS and are very durable.

A bio-blitz is an event where a group of people — scientists, naturalists, and regular folks — get together to find and identify as many species as possible in a specific area, over a short period of time (often 24 hours).
Every time that I walk in the forest with family, we try to identify the species of the animals (worms, caterpillar and butterflies, and birds. etc). It's amazing to realize the diversity of the fauna even for small woods like the one in Zug.

I recently supported my young niece on a her school project to simulate the impact of the installation of PV panel on the roof of household of 5 people and a dog. I was quite impressed by her knowledge on some technical parameters (power en kw, AC/DC conversion, capacity and consumption in kwh, etc...). The new generations are more aware of the tools that are available to reduce carbon footprint. At her age, I was more interested in counter strike and mortal Kombat to be honest.

Travelling by plane is by far the biggest driver behind my carbon footprint. We only take flights when there are no alternatives what so ever. So we rely most of the time on train or car for family travels. while I think that the luxury of travelling at the other side of the world for pure touristic reasons born with the abundance of fossil fuels, and are not a must in a life (just my opinion) -There is no need to travel 10,000 kms to see the beauty of earth - seeing the pyramids of egypts will require a flight ticket that I will pay without soul-searching
