Freshwater + Oceans

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED

Plastic in Clothing and Water

Synthetic clothing can contain plastic and shed harmful microplastics into our water. I will use a microplastics catcher in my laundry, or install a microplastics filter for my washing machine.

Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.

I knew that corals were endangered but I didn't know that the rate of their decline was so dramatic. This indicator is very worrisome to me.

Not this specific article but last year a young woman in Italy invented these re-seeding balls that I thought might be a big help worldwide. I haven't seen any follow-up articles but I look for them when I have time.

Have you seen the work that is being done to recreate coral colonies in labs? It's intriguing, you should check it out! Also the restoration process that other countries are doing is quite significant. https://ticotimes.net/2024/03/01/costa-rican-companies-lead-effort-to-restore-coral-reefs

Our City & County doesn't offer collection in some city areas. I would like our city council to consider finding a way for this to done. For seniors, those who don't drive, and those who can't carry large amounts to the nearest collection areas is not feasible.

That's a good start. A good intent and little bit of daily actions, a perfect recipe :)
