Dina's actions
Climate + Air
Stay on the Ground
Carbon emissions from air travel is harmful to planetary and human health. Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Land + Forests
Advocate for Forest Protection
Using my voice can help create a more sustainable and just world. I will contact 3 local, regional, or national decision makers to advocate for public policy that protects forests and improves their ability to sequester carbon and nourish biodiversity.
Land + Forests
Personal Waste Audit
The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Pick Up the Phone
I will gather a group of friends, family, neighbors or colleagues to make 1 phone calls to public officials or companies to advocate for planet-friendly policies.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Endangered Species
Wildlife and biodiversity play an important role on our planet and are being threatened each year. I will spend 60 minutes each day learning about the current status of local or global wildlife and how I can align my actions to support their livelihood.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Climate + Air
Low Carbon Diet
Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 120 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Land + Forests
Carry My Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me this month, to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill. I will post on the feed my reflections, conversations, and actions I will take moving forward.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Freshwater + Oceans
Learn About Water Justice in My Area
I will spend at least 30 minutes a day using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Action Track: Community
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Dina Lomagno 4/13/2024 5:51 PMI forgot to take pictures of all of us but look what we did today! We created natural bug repellent planter walls for our backyards using old wood pallets we broke down and stained. Repurposed a bunch of old planters and used compost from our mixture.-
Dina Lomagno 4/13/2024 6:17 PM@zachary please do!!! It’s so much easier than it looks. Just let me know how it comes out! -
Zachary Reyna 4/13/2024 6:12 PMThis is so smart! I might have to steal this idea 😉

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Calculate My Carbon ImpactWhere in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?
Dina Lomagno 4/12/2024 4:01 PMI took the Footprint quiz today and was surprised how high my carbon footprint even though we have an electric car, that is something that I will definitely be working on. In addition my Ecological footprint is much lower due to composting, solar, growing our own vegetables, etc. but there are some additional things I can do to lower even more.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Explore My AreaWhere did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?
Dina Lomagno 4/11/2024 2:59 PMI've spent over 4 years in Vegas and this is the first time that I've visited Sunset Park, it's a great area but was disappointed to see all the trash based upon the amount of events that go on here. Glad to see that this was our Starbucks community project today!-
Catherine Alexander 4/12/2024 6:52 PMI love those events! Great way to support the community AND spend time with peers!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Carry My TrashThis is no small task! What was eye-opening to you throughout this action? How will you change your actions going forward to reduce the waste you produce?
Dina Lomagno 4/11/2024 2:58 PMToday we carried EVERYONE's trash at the Start the Parks event here in Las Vegas. Together we collected over 600LBS of trash in the park to start the Spring and Summer seasons off right. Thankful to be part of a team, both LS and CO who continually give back not only to the community but to the environment as well! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Borrow Before I BuyHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Dina Lomagno 4/08/2024 3:44 PMThis was a big one in regards to borrowing, especially with the cost of items nowadays. We have a virtual community board for our subdivision and we now have an added page where people can post what they need to see if anyone has it available to cut down on costs, waste, etc. So far I've borrowed a pressure washer, a cement drill and a wheelbarrow, ALL this I thought I would have to buy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Dina Lomagno 4/07/2024 7:14 PMWe bought and made native plant decorations for our brunch today and everyone took one home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Dina Lomagno 4/06/2024 9:44 PMWe did 2 fold today, not only found a trail we haven't visited yet but also ended up taking a full garbage bag of trash off of Mt Charleston as well.-
SADAT SANTO 4/06/2024 10:02 PMAwesome!

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Dina Lomagno 4/05/2024 10:27 AMInstead of flying to Palm Springs for a long weekend trip with friends we decided that a friend from CA would drive and then people on the East Coast would fly to me and then I would drive our EV, making a fun roadtrip but also keeping our flights down to the minimum possible for the period of time we have. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Sustainability Lunch and LearnWho did you engage in your lunch and learn? What resources did you use? How did it go and what did you learn?
Dina Lomagno 4/04/2024 9:53 AMLast night we had a representative for NDEP (Nevada Department of Environmental Protection) come to our community potluck to discuss the benefits of composting. They came to each of the houses that already compost and showed us how to improve or add to our existing scenarios. For the people that were unsure they went through multiple educational sites and shared how the city is starting its own compost program and offered up free compost tumblers. -
Dina Lomagno 4/02/2024 11:32 AMToday we had the privilege of volunteering for The Just One Project Farmer's Market. We helped The Just One Project with their mission to provide Food For All at the Neighborhood Recreation Center. Our Farmers Market provides fresh produce to clients while we help them feel welcome as they select their items, just like you would at your favorite Farmers Market.
