Amal's actions
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Climate + Air
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

This is my last “blog” post for this year’s Ecochallenge. It was so nice engaging with you all!
We visited Michigan’s state capital today, Lansing. It was a beautiful day! My son was impressed by the cleanliness of the roads and pathways between the House of Justice, Senate and House of Representatives 💚 I was impressed that he noticed that lol

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Amal Ghazi 4/26/2024 7:24 AMI have lived in my neighborhood for almost 4 years now and have not ventured out further than my block until now! I started with just walking. But now, 3 weeks into this challenge I dusted off my bike and rollerblades and enjoy the time with the kids more 😊 I have met new people and bumped into people that I once knew - not knowing that they lived within the vicinity LOL -
Amal Ghazi 4/24/2024 1:42 PMSpring Cleaning is in full effect at my house!
With the kids growing every day, they had a lot of items that do not fit them anymore. We started with our closets and shoes. The rule of thumb we use, is: If you haven't worn it in 6 months, then you probably don't need it. Thus, it is better to donate. My girls found some clothing that still had tags on them! My son had some suits and blazers, and football and baseball cleats that he wore for one season.
We prefer to donate to local communities that have Zaman International donation bins.
Zaman International is committed to facilitating change and advancing the lives of marginalized women and children. They focus on enabling them to meet essential needs common to all humankind.

Amal Ghazi 4/17/2024 5:54 AMEvening walks with my little man :)
Notice the green plastic water bottle wrap on the ground? My son used sticks as chopsticks to pick it up and placed it in the garbage. He was worried about the ducks getting stuck in it.-

Amal Ghazi 4/15/2024 10:03 AMThrough the month of Ramadan, we had "leftover night" every other day. It was great because it meant more time outside with the kids, less waste of food and less money spent on new groceries. A few times, I had made too much food, so I had donated untouched trays to a local nonprofit organization called "The Helping Handzzz". You can follow them on Instagram to learn more. I plan to utilize them more throughout the year :)-
