Carolyn's actions

Freshwater + Oceans

Smart Seafood Choices

We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 60 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Dishwasher Efficiency

Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.

COMPLETED 10
DAILY ACTIONS

Freshwater + Oceans

Cooking Oil Disposal

Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Action Track: Community

Plant Trees

Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 2 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

30 for 30 in Nature

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED 16
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Zero Waste Day

The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Keep My Community Clean

At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.

COMPLETED 13
DAILY ACTIONS

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

From my research, I was able to find out we have a recycling center within about 30 minutes from my home. I have started collecting cooking oil and will take it to the RC.

      Good morning Carolyn,

Keep up the good work! That is awesome. Every small action helps.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Freshwater + Oceans Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

After reading the information on sustainable and ethically sourced seafood, I feel good about the seafood I buy and feed my family. I have always bought seafood from reputable stores that certify they purchase from wholesalers that follow the required standards.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I have been trying to have a no trash day since I was notified of this challenge. I have yet to make it. I did not realize how hard it was going to be.

@Lauren Combs I am not sure. I can tell I have cut back on the amount of trash we have but I still have not been able to cut back to no trash in a day. I am still working on it.

Checking in to see if this is feasible, Carolyn. I didn't select this one...

Carolyn. I also make a lot of trash and I'm not quite sure how to minimize this either.
