Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 30 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 45 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Climate + Air
Low Carbon Diet
Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Learn about Native Species
The world is full of unique species. I will spend 20 minutes each day learning what the native plants and wildlife are in my region.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Invest in Nature
A healthy world needs both our daily actions and support from larger systems. I will spend 45 minutes learning about how I can use my investments and savings to advance environmental sustainability.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Biodiversity and Me
I will spend at least 60 minutes each day researching what biodiversity is, how biodiversity positively impacts our world, and how the loss of biodiversity harms it. I will share what I learn on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Land + Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will look for sustainable palm oil products with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSP) label. I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation and opt for ones that help sustain healthy communities and forests.
Freshwater + Oceans
Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning
Understanding cleaning product ingredients and their effect on water and biodiversity is helpful to our consumer choices. I will spend 60 minutes learning about how cleaning products affect our water and try making my own cleaning products to reduce pollutants.
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 60 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Claudia Zimmermann 4/29/2024 10:07 AMAnother reason to avoid palm oil in our food is that it contains glycidil ester which can cause cancer. Unfortunately, it is not forbidden, as the plant produces a lot of fruits and it is a cheap ingredient.-
Mateus Lima 4/29/2024 12:26 PMGreat information, I didn't have information about this type of oil and I didn't know the risks it could cause.

Claudia Zimmermann 4/28/2024 4:49 AMThinking about where I can still improve is to use more recycled paper or use more bamboo tissues to avoid paper. We can always find something where we can change. I am already on the way but must admit that when the shop has no recycled paper I take a normal one. This is not good. I need to me more consistent.-
Maren Sonnenberg 4/28/2024 5:22 AMBut that's great that you don't buy thoughtlessly.

Claudia Zimmermann 4/28/2024 3:47 AMPalm oil is cheap and used everywhere. It leads to deforestation, wild animal trade and climate change and fast change in the environment. Money over saving the planet.
We can decide with our purchase if we buy products with or without palmoil. Here is a list of synonym which help you to Spot it in your product.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Claudia Zimmermann 4/27/2024 5:27 AMI don't eat much fish anymore and buy follow fish products which secure sustainability. However, from time to time I eat Sushi and I would assume that they don't think about it. Especially, tuna. The bigger the fish the higher the amount of mercury. I need to be more aware of it and think about it before buying them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Regenerative Agriculture and MeWhat did you learn about the practice and benefits of regenerative agriculture? How can you support healthy farming practices for people and the planet?
Claudia Zimmermann 4/27/2024 5:14 AMI have started to learn more about this kind if agriculture 2 years ago and since then I am a big fan. I try to buy my veggies or fruits from regenerative agricultural farms when possible. In my opinion this is the only way to guarantee that the food you eat is full of minerals and vitamins. A good soil is important. Here you find respect for nature, you not only take you give back. This is how it should be, don't you think? I see now that young farmers tend to go back to this technique and I support with my purchase as they do the right thing, Hope that more farmers join them. -
