Reduce Animal Products

One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 3 meatless meals and/or 3 vegan meals each day this week.

Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

    It's seems appropriate to finish this month off by starting a new adventure. Tonight was the first night of our learn to trail
    run clinic. We have 20 new runners signed up to spend the next 12 weeks exploring the trails as they start their running journey! So fun...I love volunteering to do this!

    We've seen alot of changes this month; it started with snow on the ground and ended with everything blooming around us! It's been great to slow down and spend more quality time with the family.

    Where in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?

    Heating was very high as all of our heating is by NG and we live in a northern climate. We have had an energy audit done so we are doing what we can to optimize our heating.

    Volunteered at the Mississauga Marathon this morning. We were lead cyclists for the elite runners. They were fast today! If you bike consider contacting your local marathon to see if you can help. Its fun riding on a closed course so you don't need to worry about cars and inspiring to see the elites crush it!

    Encountered one of the most dangerous animals in Canada; especially when they are nesting! We turned around here because they were very aggressive protecting their nest 😂

    Time to get the snow tires off so walked to and from the garage. It was a nice day and I'm optimistic that snow is over for anothe winter so we'll probably get one more snow 😂

    We were tricked by the sun today...it was so cold! We had a frost warning this morning and the weather network says it going to be 30oC by Sunday. We are seeing more huge temperature swings and its confusing the plants and wildlife. I can definitely say the climate in my area has changed greatly since I was a child.

    The trees are starting to flower so we should see more bees soon as they have food sources. Consider waiting to pull out your dandelions until more plants are in bloom. They provide food early in the year for insects when resources are scarce. Note: pesticides are banned in Ontario and can only be used in regulated industries due to their negative impacts on local wildlife and waterways.

    We got out for a run on the Bruce Trail today. We've been exploring more this month instead of just walking around the block. We are both enjoying the change of scenery and spending more time outside.

    We went back out to the River and Ruin trail. We couldn't believe how green to had become in just a week. Trilliums will be blooming soon!
