Action Track: Community

Share My "Why"

I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Learn about Native Species

The world is full of unique species. I will spend 10 minutes each day learning what the native plants and wildlife are in my region.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Compost Food Waste

Food in the landfill is one of the main sources of greenhouse gasses. I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Keep My Community Clean

At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.

COMPLETED 10
DAILY ACTIONS

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Took my dog on a walk today through my neighbor's hazelnut farm at sunset. Was beautiful. Got to hear lots of birds and bask in the sun as I sat in between one of the rows and listened to some other school work. Just because one is busy does not mean one can't find a way to integrate nature just requires a bit of forethought and creativity!

Forgot to post, but a week ago I drove to the Brookwood library and ate the rest of my dinner while I watched the birds live. I saw a gaggle of geese with their babies getting ready to turn in for the night. Was super cute and very glad I did it!

      update:
The event went really well, worked for 3 hours alongside a busy road. So background information I live in a country community, and I help with our halls Instagram page. The event was organized by another group made up of the women in our community, which I'm also apart of. And I had made a post about it to the halls page which spread the word and ended up with close to 20 people. Probably filled up 6 big trash bags, and came across a black gardener snake that frightened thinking it was a rope and about to pick up.
Was a great time and got some hollered & honked thank yous.
      Happy Earth day!!
      thanks for reading

Land + Forests Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I have been composting for various years now. Not only does food waste go to the garden but the chickens as well. Because it is a habit whenever I need to throw away food, at a friend's house, I notice how much gets tossed.
