Jiemaica's actions
Freshwater + Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 6 hours in my community.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Reduce Animal Products
One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Freshwater + Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Borrow Before I BuyHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Jiemaica Ocampo 4/29/2024 8:58 AMThis action helps me realize how things like fast fashion affects our environment. During this month, we tried to share stuff we already have to our friends and family when they needed it for like events which if they bought, will only be utilized once or twice for the rest of the year and then will just be stocked and eventually will become waste. This sharing benefits not just our environment but also the relationship we have within our social group. -
Jiemaica Ocampo 4/29/2024 8:31 AMIt feels like we just started yesterday but now we're down to last 2 days. 🤯 We've gained lots of new learnings, realizations and experiences through this eco challenge program. Let's keep our momentum until the end team! Let's go!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Jiemaica Ocampo 4/26/2024 7:55 AMVolunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference to the lives of people, animals, and organizations in need.
Volunteering also provides you with renewed creativity, motivation, and vision that can carry over into your personal and professional life.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water BottleWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Jiemaica Ocampo 4/23/2024 7:29 AMAlmost all of the single-use food and water containers we're receiving when for example buying takeaways are made of plastics. Not just with food but also other items from grocery stores or convenience stores were using plastics that eventually will become waste.
Right now, together with the team, we always bring our own water bottle when going to office. This small practice if turn to habits will definitely benefit our environment.

Jiemaica Ocampo 4/18/2024 8:37 AMIt's summer time! We're experiencing extremely hot season currently, let's all stay hydrated while reducing plastic wastes by using our water tumblers instead of single-use plastic bottles when going outside.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Jiemaica Ocampo 4/18/2024 8:30 AMIn our household we frequently use plastic and vegetable bags from our weekly groceries at the same time cups and straws for our daily coffee / tea drinks before we start work. This can be reduced or eliminated by using reusable items like eco bags and reusable straws and cups. We currently owned these items per household member to help reduce plastic wastes.-
Ally Angel Aucena 4/22/2024 4:30 AMLet use our reusable bags always!
