Freshwater + Oceans

Low Water Gardening

Grass lawns are water-intensive and on average require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. Native plants are water-efficient and help maintain the balance and diversity of local ecosystems. I will plant native species with water-efficient plants to conserve water and improve the habitat, then post a photo on the feed to share.

COMPLETED

I will spend 60 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

Borrow Before I Buy

Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.

COMPLETED

I go for a walk from time to time. I love to appreciate nature's beauty. I am stressed at work but reconnecting with nature made me breathe. This helped me physically and mentally as well. Nature can truly help me move forward with life. :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Regenerative Agriculture and Me
What did you learn about the practice and benefits of regenerative agriculture? How can you support healthy farming practices for people and the planet?

I was born and raised in the province. We have cows and carabaos in the province and I saw how the caretaker use their dung to fertilize some of the plants we have. This made me realize that everything has a purpose. Even a dung can be useful and transform into a manure. I will research more on this.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Zero Waste Day
What was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?

    Krystel Grace Dimalibot's avatar
Krystel Grace Dimalibot 4/30/2024 12:59 AM
For a day, I cooked fresh vegetables to avoid waste from the food's packaging. I also ate fruits for my snacks instead of biscuits wrapped in tetra packs. I used washable cloths in wiping spills instead of tissues. This was a hard challenge for me but this gave me an idea that everything is possible if you want to make things work. I am hoping to adapt a lesser waste life in the future.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Freshwater + Oceans Low Water Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

    Krystel Grace Dimalibot's avatar
Krystel Grace Dimalibot 4/30/2024 12:52 AM
I am blessed because I don't experience any water concerns in my area. But I make sure that I am not throwing garbage in our sewage because this may cause flooding. Simple acts like this can prevent pollution.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Freshwater + Oceans Understand My Water Footprint
What did you learn about your water footprint and what are you going to do to reduce and be aware of the water you use?

    Krystel Grace Dimalibot's avatar
Krystel Grace Dimalibot 4/30/2024 12:49 AM
I am very aware of my water footprint because I collect my water bills and compare them every month. To save water, I reuse the water I use for washing my dogs to clean our garage. In this simple way, I can reduce my water consumption.

Hope we can have this too in the Philippines. :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Freshwater + Oceans Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning
What did you learn about ingredients in our cleaning products and how they impact water and biodiversity? Did you try making your own cleaning products? If so, how did it go?

    Krystel Grace Dimalibot's avatar
Krystel Grace Dimalibot 4/30/2024 12:08 AM
I learned that cleaning and sanitizing products can increase air pollution. At first, I am unaware of this and I buy lots of cleaning products. I am now aware and I only buy the products that I need. It is good to read their labels before buying. I haven't tried creating my own product but I did my research and I am willing to create one in the future with the ingredients available at home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate + Air Calculate My Carbon Impact
Where in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?

    Krystel Grace Dimalibot's avatar
Krystel Grace Dimalibot 4/29/2024 11:59 PM
I will walk more if I know my destination can be reached by foot. I will also conserve energy and explore areas at home that can help me lessen my energy use.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Invest in Nature
What did you learn about how investing can support the environment and create a more sustainable world?

    Krystel Grace Dimalibot's avatar
Krystel Grace Dimalibot 4/29/2024 11:54 PM
I learned that even with the smallest things, I can help the environment and make a strong impact. This will help me live a better life and our future generation as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Beauty and Personal Products
What new insights did you gain about the skincare products you use? Did you reach out to advocate for refillable or recyclable packaging?

    Krystel Grace Dimalibot's avatar
Krystel Grace Dimalibot 4/29/2024 11:52 PM
I learned that I can help the environment by auditing the skincare products I use. There are shops using recyclable containers. I practice this on perfumes. The brand gives discount whenever you return used bottles. I will reach out to my favorite brand using social media.
