April 18 at 1:53 PMSmall actions = Big impact. Let's lighten our footprint, one unplug at a time. Try going for a walk, read a book or simply enjoy the quiet by spending 1 hour tech-free. #UnplugandRecharge #DigitalDetox #GreenHabits

April 18 at 8:45 AMSince learning about moths as important pollinators, I am turning off my exterior lights when I go to bed at night to not distract and confuse them.

April 18 at 7:28 AMClean water isn't a huge issue where we live. I was surprised to find out 2 in 5 health care facilities don't have access to water for proper hygiene. I also didn't realize that it's BILLIONS of people affected. Not the Millions affected is much better, but this number is a lot larger than I anticipated.

April 18 at 7:22 AMI searched around Wisconsin instead of Illinois - it's where I grew up. We would drive through the Menominee Indian Reservation to get to my grandparent's house in northern WI. While I knew bits and pieces of the history, it was interesting to learn more. Also to note - in college visits this last year, it was interesting that more than one...

April 17 at 12:43 PMToday, practice mindful consumption. Before tossing or using anything, let's pause and ask: Do I really need this? Choose reusables. Avoid excess. Reduce waste - intentionally. Sustainability starts with awareness. #EcoChallenge #MindfulLiving #SustainableThursday #WasteLessLiveMore

April 17 at 12:36 PMStrong communities start with simple connections! I joined my local Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meeting to discuss building a safer, stronger and more supportive community with my neighbors and the local Chicago Police Department. #TogetherWeCan #NeighborhoodConnections #CommunityBuilding

April 17 at 7:53 AMThrifty Thursday!!! I enjoy giving away clothing items and receiving hand me down to keep up with my growing boys! I love to give away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors. It takes a village they say- and it sure does!

April 17 at 7:27 AMMy all purpose cleaner was a DIY recipe I learned during last year's challenge and I have never missed having a store bought one. Some of the cleaners I want to replace based on research this year is for my dishwasher, laundry ( the soap I tried last year just didn't clean the way I hoped, so I'm going to try a different brand), and toilet bowl...

April 15 at 1:00 PMShopping at my local Walgreens on Friday I assisted a very elderly lady in finding a product that the associate on the floor could not locate (he'd never even heard of it). It was a very small thing, but rather than have her walk away without what she needed I jumped in to help and it made me feel really good. :)

April 15 at 11:19 AMI have worked to use a bare minimum of water while washing dishes, only enough to moisten the sponge or brush and activate the soap while I pile up the clean dishes in the sink, running water only to rinse everything quickly at the end. Saves on water of course, and energy to heat the water as well.
