  • I will be going through old clothing & toys this weekend & donating to Goodwill! Before you throw, think of what others may need.

That’s awesome, it really makes you think about how much we can give a second life instead of just throwing things away

This is awesome! Someone else can enjoy them as well
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Work and Organizations
What did you learn from your audit, and what steps did you take to reduce waste? How can reducing waste create both environmental and organizational benefits?

I lead the Environmental Services Department at a regional hospital; we are always auditing & finding ways to better processes. We are currently focusing on reuse, instead of throwing items away, we have been trying to repurpose throughout our organization & partners.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?

I run & lift on a daily basis. Fueling with plenty of fruits and vegetables has helped with energy levels & prevents cramping. I had bananas, oranges, grapes, berries, watermelon!

Question: Where do people dispose of their home alkaline batteries? I used to take them to Hazardous Waste, but now they are telling me I can throw them in the garbage. I can't. It feels wrong.

It's been wonderful to have nice enough weather to turn off our heat, and nice that it's not so hot outside that we have to turn our air conditioning on. Excited to have a lower utility bill this month! I'm also starting to think about how to reduce our energy usage at home this summer. Because it stays light out later, we will likely keep lights off for longer.

What ways are you reducing your energy usage?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Soil and Food
What did you decide to grow, and how did it feel to start (or care for) your plants? What connections did it give you to soil or food resilience?

This year I will grow tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, bell peppers, strawberries, and spinach. I'm hoping to grow enough to make salsa, pasta sauce, pickles and strawberry jam for my husband and I for the year. Maybe some to give away to family/friends for holiday gifts.

  • What are ways you are reducing water usage at home?

As a highly competitive and goal motivated person, take the challenge to shower before 3 songs end is the best strategy I have found

I learned how to make strawberry jam and can it today. My first time canning anything! I might make some homemade bread tomorrow to go with the jam:)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What personal strengths or supports helped you adapt to a past challenge? How might those same strengths help you in the future?

What did you learn about the role of pollinators in food systems? Did you take any action to support pollinators? If so, share a picture in the feed!

I don't think I realized how heavily our food systems relied on pollinators. I am planning to add some flowers to the railing of my deck and outside my front door/on the front steps this summer. Not only will it liven up my space, but it will attract pollinators for my vegetable and strawberry plants.
