  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Biodiversity + Wildlife Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

"Called", I like that word choice. Maybe in my case it's just my own personal pet peeve, but I love picking up litter. It's a huge problem in my area, and I know it's small but there's such a sense of accomplishment when you can observably see the problem, see what obviously needs to be done, and do it. No arguing, no politics, no opposing expert opinions and trying to discern who's right; I didn't need a study to tell me what to do, I see the trash, pick it up. Not that we don't need to hash out the big stuff, we do, but let's make sure we aren't missing what's right in front of us.

During our trip to NY, we kept everything that we could not find a place to recycle in NY with us, and brought it back home so we could dispose it appropriately. Between Rumpke, Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub, and our compost we throw away little in garbage.

Glory to God, what a beautiful time of year. To Christians, the Springtime (and particularly April) represent the resurrection. The warm sun feels so much lovelier in contrast to the death of winter.

I see many of my neighbors working hard to upkeep their home and keep their lawn healthy and beautiful. I really appreciate all their hard work and I don't want them to have to deal with this trash that always blows in off the street into our yards. I also don't want their pets to be in danger of eating it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate + Air Low Carbon Diet
Which high carbon foods will you eat less of, and what are some low carbon options you'll choose instead?

My wife and I are pescatarians. One of the main reasons we gave up eating chicken was to cut back on our carbon footprint.

I learned that farm-raised shrimp has almost as bad a carbon footprint as chicken.

    Dairy is bad as well.

Will try and only buy wild-caught shrimp in the future. Will cut back on dairy as well.

Climate + Air Weekly Meal Planning
How did it feel to plan out your meals and stick to them in an effort to reduce food waste?

I had hoped to have two planned and prepared meals for today, but a missing ingredient caused me to eat out for dinner. But! I really enjoyed my leftover soup and sandwich for lunch.

I scheduled a grocery pick up for tomorrow. The Walmart app has an option to allow customers to bring their own reusable bags, which I have plenty of. Today's the day to stop being lazy! I selected that option and made sure to put my bags in the trunk in advance.

      Awesome Alexandria.

When we first made the switch to use reusable bags it was hard to remember to take the bags from the car. A couple of times I went back to the car from the grocery store. From that point on I always remembered to take my bags.
