"To focus more carefully on loving God's creation: the land, water, and living things (especially the Image Bearers of God). To carry on the duty I have to leave it beautiful and healthy for the next generation."

Alexandria's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.
Land + Forests
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 2 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 3 hours in my community.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Alexandria Seekamp 4/24/2024 9:54 AM"Called", I like that word choice. Maybe in my case it's just my own personal pet peeve, but I love picking up litter. It's a huge problem in my area, and I know it's small but there's such a sense of accomplishment when you can observably see the problem, see what obviously needs to be done, and do it. No arguing, no politics, no opposing expert opinions and trying to discern who's right; I didn't need a study to tell me what to do, I see the trash, pick it up. Not that we don't need to hash out the big stuff, we do, but let's make sure we aren't missing what's right in front of us.-
Fred Desai 4/25/2024 9:11 AMLove your “just do it” mindset!
When others see u pick up litter, they would be inspired to do so as well.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Alexandria Seekamp 4/17/2024 4:23 AMGlory to God, what a beautiful time of year. To Christians, the Springtime (and particularly April) represent the resurrection. The warm sun feels so much lovelier in contrast to the death of winter. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Alexandria Seekamp 4/17/2024 4:19 AMI see many of my neighbors working hard to upkeep their home and keep their lawn healthy and beautiful. I really appreciate all their hard work and I don't want them to have to deal with this trash that always blows in off the street into our yards. I also don't want their pets to be in danger of eating it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Weekly Meal PlanningHow did it feel to plan out your meals and stick to them in an effort to reduce food waste?
Alexandria Seekamp 4/02/2024 4:50 AMI had hoped to have two planned and prepared meals for today, but a missing ingredient caused me to eat out for dinner. But! I really enjoyed my leftover soup and sandwich for lunch. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Go Plastic-FreeWhere did plastic show up on your life that surprised you the most? What plastic alternative products did you discover you may switch to?
Alexandria Seekamp 4/02/2024 4:45 AMI scheduled a grocery pick up for tomorrow. The Walmart app has an option to allow customers to bring their own reusable bags, which I have plenty of. Today's the day to stop being lazy! I selected that option and made sure to put my bags in the trunk in advance.-
Fred Desai 4/07/2024 10:31 PMAwesome Alexandria.
When we first made the switch to use reusable bags it was hard to remember to take the bags from the car. A couple of times I went back to the car from the grocery store. From that point on I always remembered to take my bags.
