As Earth Month draws to a close, I'm filled with an immense sense of gratitude and pride for what we've achieved together on the Guardians of the Green team for the ODP Corporation!
To every member of our team: thank you for your commitment, enthusiasm, and the genuine care you've shown for our planet throughout this challenge! Each small step we've taken is a leap towards a more sustainable future.
This month, we've embraced practices that not only honor the Earth but also bring us closer to the essence of who we are: stewards of this incredible, living planet. From reducing waste to supporting biodiversity, every action has been a testament to our collective will to make a difference. Remember the journey doesn't end with the month of April. The end of Earth Month is not a finish line, but a milestone. Let's carry forward the habits and lessons learned, and ingrain them into the fabric of our daily lives.
Let the Eco Challenge be the spark that keeps us ignited throughout the year, continuously striving for a healthier planet. Looking ahead, I am already excited for the 2025. Let's return with new stories, insights, and an even stronger resolve to contribute positively to our environment.
Until then, let's keep the spirit of Earth Month alive in our actions and our hearts. Together, we can and will make a difference. Here's to a greener tomorrow, every day. With heartfelt thanks and anticipation for what's to come,
Forests offer a myriad of benefits beyond carbon sequestration. Personally, they provide a serene escape from urban life, reducing stress and improving mood. The natural beauty of forests enhances well-being through calming scenery and opportunities for recreation, such as hiking or picnicking. Additionally, forests contribute to cleaner air, biodiversity conservation, and water purification, all of which indirectly support human health and happiness.
The majority of my carbon comes from consumption and housing. This year I have had several large expenses related to relocation that will prevent me from making big changes but I will be looking into an investment in solar to further reduce my carbon footprint. In the mean time there were a couple of suggestions that were helpful.
I did a home online energy audit. It not only provided an efficiency rating but also active suggestions for areas to improve. Even if you have energy efficient appliances and low usage, you can continue to improve with better home insulation and higher UV protective windows.
A coworker and I (Lisa H!) got together for lunch and shared information. We watched videos on water filtration to eliminate microplastics, and a video on the Interceptor 007 that was installed in LA a year or so ago to catch plastics coming downstream in the river before they make it to the Pacific. We did follow up research on these as well and do not intend to lose steam. Every new thing we learn ignites us with questions and the desire to learn more and to do better!
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
In my area, several rivers, lakes and reservoirs have precautionary advisories in place for some species of fish. A precautionary advisory means children, expectant mothers and nursing mothers should not eat the fish, and everyone else should limit their intake of the fish to one meal each month.
