Last day of the EcoChallenge, Pride team! Get your check-ins submitted and your reflection questions posted. How have your behaviors changed over the month? I've really enjoyed learning new ways to declutter my home without contributing to a landfill, or even a recycling bin in some cases. I've been using strawberry and blueberry containers from the grocery store as seed starters - good drainage and excited to see my seeds popping up without having spent extra money and being able to repurpose something.

Action Track: Community Borrow Before I Buy
How did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?

My wife, her dad and her dad's girlfriend enjoying golfing as a leisurely activity, and they've been wanting to get me involved. I've never golfed so haven't owned any equipment. We went golfing and I borrowed my brother-in-law's set of clubs, which was nice to do, but I'm left-handed and everyone else is the more typical right-handed. I golfed an entire 18 holes with right-handed clubs, and did enjoy myself enough to now have purchased my own starter set of left-handed clubs. Even though it wasn't an ideal borrow situation, it was nice to borrow the clubs for the day to determine if it was something I really wanted to move forward with. Since purchasing left-handed clubs, my wife and I have gone to the driving range and holy smokes, what a difference in my swing and hits with the correct clubs!

I joined a campus cleanup at the Shakopee Minnesota Emerson site where I work today and although it was a bit chilly it was also a great experience! I always enjoy the clean-up events we have, be it on-site or the nearby park my site takes care of. Not only are they a great chance to get outside and clean up your community, they're also a great way to get to know your community. I wasn't super familiar with the Shakopee area when I started at Emerson, but through a clean-up event this past summer I got a chance to explore a cool new park and found bike trail here. It also helped me get to know and build relationships with some of my colleagues that I hadn't talked to before. They're one of the many reasons I enjoy these events. If you haven't gone to a clean-up event yet I highly recommend!

I've always been interested and fond of pollinator plants, having planted random varieties in the past, but in small quantities due to the very small yard I used to have. At my new home, I'd love to set aside a dedicated pollinator garden. I'm still mapping it out, but my wife and I have started planting seeds indoors - taking up half of the dining table - to get ready for transplant outside mid-next month once the fear of frost has passed. We've got marigolds, dahlias, and sweet peas poking through so far.

That's very exciting! I've always wanted a fig tree - this is a great reminder for me to look into getting one: I never had room at my old home but moved late last year and am excited to have more room to grow a garden and trees. Best of luck with the acclimation of your fig tree! Two years is certainly worth the wait for fresh figs.

Not one of my daily or one-time actions, but I coordinated a carpool with my roller derby teammates for a game we had last night. I drove us all in my Prius to help us keep emissions to a minimum. A gameday carpool is always more fun, and beneficial for the Earth!
We played great and won our game last night, which was a great end to the weekend. :D

For my daily actions, learning to declutter without contributing to landfills and meal planning has been easier than composting. Anyone have tips for getting started in composting? Thanks in advance for any advice!
