What have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?

When I go on walks- particularly in nature preserve/state park environments, I feel like my mind is cleared and I'm able to focus on the present. It's refreshing to be out experiencing nature and am glad my area has plenty of preserved spaces within arms reach!

I got distracted by life and have been tardy checking in....however, the Challenge has kept me mindful daily of the ways in which I can change my ways, my family to enact small changes for the better of the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate + Air Consume only Needs vs Wants
Consuming only what we need vs. what we want can be really hard to do. What has been challenging about committing to this action for a month? What have you learned about yourself? Will you change any habits going forward?

I've found that I need to remind myself to stick to only necessary things, which hopefully will help me stick to needs beyond this month.

I learned about the importance of biodiversity on the planet and the ways that we can protect it. I also learned ways to motivate yourself to save the planet by thinking of things that you enjoy that come from nature and working on ways to help conserve those things.

I learned that both zoos in Minnesota participate in cooperative breeding to protect against extinction, and how the program works. I also learned about another program that encourages recycling electronics to save gorillas, so that's interesting!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Picking up even one piece of trash makes the area look better, and safer for children and wildlife nearby.

I agree. I hate seeing litter out in the community. I try to keep things clean and beautiful. I am hoping it will become contagious and more people will start caring too.

Carpooled to work today! It gets easier if you set up a routine and everyone is on the same page.

I carpool to work to save both of us on costs, and it helps the environment. That is a win for all.

For Keurig-style coffee pods, I assumed they were fully recyclable and treated them as such. Disappointed to learn how harmful they can be in waste-disposal system. I switched to a coffee maker (with a reusable filter) to fulfill the caffeine need!
