Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 1 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.

Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.

Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals and/or 2 vegan meals each day.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

Suraj Vadhava 4/21/2025 2:10 AMEveryday is something new to learn about the conservation. Be it water usage, soil quality, Aquatic life etc. It's exciting and moving on.... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Suraj Vadhava 4/16/2025 7:11 AMIt surprised me to learn how much water is used for the products we use. -
Suraj Vadhava 4/16/2025 7:05 AMMy Ecochallenge 2025 is well, learning new things about environment. Trying to follow the habits learned in past and continue to adopt new good environment conservation habits. Spreading a word around and encouraging others to participate in this journey. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat water justice issues did you learn about, and who is most affected in your community? How can you contribute to creating equitable access to clean water in your area?
Suraj Vadhava 4/14/2025 5:51 AMLearned about the fresh water vs. overall water availability. Water consumption by agriculture, industries and aquaculture. The rapid increase in the consumption vs. how much water can be extracted from the sources in coming years. There are certain areas around my community those are not getting adequate fresh water due to the socio-economic conditions. Also some areas are affected due to lack of proper infrastructure and not getting the fresh/clean water they need. As of now the people from those affected areas are putting pressure on local corporator to get the infrastructure needed. We are helping them with raising their voice. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?
Suraj Vadhava 4/14/2025 4:31 AMYes, of course it was quite difficult. We had to prepare more than 2 days ahead for it. There were many steps involved like not to have any food waste and other waste that we generate in household. So cooking just right qty of fully consumable meals, no plastic use, no paper waste etc. was tough for the whole family to achieve that even for one day that was yesterday. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow was your experience intentionally trying to eat less meat?
Suraj Vadhava 4/14/2025 4:26 AMI spent sometime learning about how our digestion work differently for veg vs. non-veg meals. Surprisingly in the tropical region the meat we eat takes about 7-10 days to get fully digested and absorbed in our body. So, I am having only vegetarian diet from past 5 months and feeling so light in my gut. Also, feeling to fresh and energetic. Of course I have substituted the protiene needs with other items. -
Suraj Vadhava 4/11/2025 2:18 AMToday in one of our project review meetings, I begin with discussion on sustainability. I put up a question that whether our day to day actions and habits are really aligned with the sustainability principles like reduce, reuse and recycle or not? People were surprised to hear that and then they laughed, few commented that they need to be mindful about it and so on...all in all about 10-15 people got this thought today! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Suraj Vadhava 4/11/2025 2:15 AMIt wasn't really difficult to keep in mind to carry a cloth bag along while go for the shopping. It's kind of a habit we have now developed to carry 1-2 cloth bags always when we leave the home.
