Delphine's actions
Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 30 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Climate + Air
Online Energy Audit
Energy use and waste is often invisible. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Climate + Air
Stay on the Ground
Carbon emissions from air travel is harmful to planetary and human health. Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Freshwater + Oceans
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 30 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Beauty and Personal Products
Beauty and personal products can create a lot of waste. I will spend 30 minutes learning about the beauty and body products I use to see if they are refillable or recyclable. If not, I will reach out to the manufacturer to advocate for those options.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 30 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Land + Forests
Personal Waste Audit
The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Delphine Tounzi 4/24/2024 2:44 AMDid you know that France has the secong largest maritime space in the world ? That's why it is so important that we increase our protected ocean areas. As of today, there are 568 areas protected which represents 22% of the total space as of 2019, with a target to increase to 30%. Knowing that we have such a huge maritime spce makes me think that we also have a huge responsibility in managing those protected areas.-
Raissa Fermin 4/24/2024 2:59 AMWhoa, I did not know. Thank you for sharing this nugget of knowledge, and I hope that more countries do the same.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Weekly Meal PlanningHow did it feel to plan out your meals and stick to them in an effort to reduce food waste?
Delphine Tounzi 4/23/2024 11:45 PMI used to buy things just because I found "it could be useful". Over the last few weeks, I have started to plan my meals and only buy what I need for that. I found it tough to refrain myself, but also helped with mental charge. In the end, you are not overwhelmed with thinking about what you would like to eat + what you have + what may expire, so a pretty nice habit. Now I need to plan a bit ahead, as I had to go buy stuff more often ;) -
Delphine Tounzi 4/23/2024 11:41 PMOver the week-end, I went to the grocery and and did my best to buy plastic-free food. There are few ways I was able to avoid plastic, but there are still things where today there is no alternative proposed. Still a long way to go. I was watching a video yesterday from Sweden where industrials are encouraged to use recycled plastic and where inidividuals have 10 (!) bins to recycle the different elements individually. Amazing ! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Personal Waste AuditWhat are the results of your waste audit and what did you learn? How can you reduce your waste going forward?
Delphine Tounzi 4/19/2024 12:28 AMI have not started my waste audit yet, but found this article really intersting (in french) and made me think that we can make it happen, jsut by being more conscious about what we do ( link to the article : https://www.nationalgeographic.fr/environnement/2022/07/on-a-teste-pour-vous-une-semaine-sans-sacs-et-emballages-plastiques) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Delphine Tounzi 4/17/2024 12:19 AMWhen thinking about what I bring back from my travels, I realize that over the years, I started to change habits. Few years back, I used to bring back cups (I have a huge collection :)) that were probably all made out of China. On my last trip, I brought back local spices and a handmade plate produced locally. I think that is the right path to keep local economy healthy and still protect the environment.
Here are the 6 tips I'll remember for net trip :
Six sustainable souvenir ideas- Organic food and drink from small producers, ideally consisting of ingredients grown on regenerative farms
- Objects crafted from recycled materials (like totes spun from used fishing nets)
- Handicrafts bought directly from the maker
- Secondhand or vintage goods
- Natural beauty products in recyclable packaging
- Objects made by people who are marginalised or struggling to find work

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and OceansWhat did you learn about freshwater and oceans you did not already know? In sharing this information with people in your life, which conversation was impactful to you?
Delphine Tounzi 4/12/2024 1:27 AMReading through the articles, I learned that everything is interconnected. Conservation of freshwater and oceans is critical to keep the world in balance. Increasing water temperature creates floods and droughts. Plastics we use end up in oceans and impacts the survival of species in oceans. A lot to do in that area ! -
Delphine Tounzi 4/09/2024 7:31 AMPromote second hand usage - this week-end, we organized a garage sale and were amazed how people get creative reusing things with a different purpose. That opened my eyes that rather than throwing away we should always look at selling / giving to give a second live to objects. We ended up giving a bunch of objects to an association ! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Delphine Tounzi 4/09/2024 7:22 AMI got used since several year to use reusable bags for bigger things, but I am still using small ones, especially when buying vegetables and fruits. I really thought this month about when those bags were really needed, and started to (even in smaller scale) to reuse them rather than throwing them away straight away. Good habit to continue ! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Beauty and Personal ProductsWhat new insights did you gain about the skincare products you use? Did you reach out to advocate for refillable or recyclable packaging?
Delphine Tounzi 4/05/2024 12:48 AMI did not realize before investigating around how easily I could change some of my habits related to skincare products, and especially on refillable products. I am so used to buy the same products since years, that I did not question myself. Great learning, and I will look for buying differently now.-
Alexander König 4/06/2024 4:29 AMThanks for sharing this great experience! You are right, we need to break with our old habits in favour of new and sustainable choices!
