Sustainable Innovation
Sustainable actions at Alliance
Consider sustainability and wellness efforts while on the clock. Think about how you can make a positive impact and what might prevent success. Discuss with a coworker and problem-solve.
Share My Why
Take the Earth Month Ecochallenge Feedback Survey
I will take a short survey about my experience to help the Ecochallenge team improve future events, earn a chance to win a prize, and earn 15 points!
Wildlife
Learn to Grow Plants Your Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 60 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 5 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Community and Connection
Host a Gathering
Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals nourishes our body and the planet. I will prepare and enjoy 3 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and veggies.
Community and Connection
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 1 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
Wildlife
Learn How to Save the Bees
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 20 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 30 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 45 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.
Community and Connection
Visit or Learn About a Culturally Significant Site Near Me
Sites of cultural and spiritual significance hold deep meaning for many communities, particularly Indigenous peoples. I will learn about or visit a site near me that is significant to the history, culture, or environment of the area. I will approach my visit with respect by researching its importance and guidelines beforehand, reflecting on how we can preserve these spaces for future generations.
Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 45 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Community and Connection
Swap and Share with Others
Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 1 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Community and Connection
Share Information about Local Resources
Knowledge of local resources helps communities thrive. I will learn about local resources, especially mutual aid groups, and share them with others on social media, in conversations, or in other ways that help spread the word.
Community and Connection
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services to support my community, such as helping someone with a task, tutoring, repairing something, or volunteering my expertise.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Health and Well-Being
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Environmental issues often impact marginalized communities the most. I will spend 20 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Health and Well-Being
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
Empowering the Next Generation
Support Youth Climate Activists
Youth activists are leading the charge for a better world. I will spend 30 minutes learning about or supporting youth climate activists through sharing their work or attending their events.
Community and Connection
Join a Group
Belonging to a group can help build friendships and a sense of purpose. I will explore online or in-person groups or clubs that share my interests or goals and join a group to connect with others.
Community and Connection
Invite a coworker to join Ecochallenge
As a team, we can accomplish so much more, so let's grow our ATG team of Ecochallengers!

REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat are some ways that you can contribute to sustainability and wellness efforts while at work? Have you tried any out this month? Share a picture!
Angela Orta 4/24/2025 1:53 PMBring reuseable water bottles, coffee cups, and lunch containers to avoid single-use plastics. Turn off lights and electronics when not in use, especially in shared spaces. Take regular breaks to stand up, stretch, and walk around, combating sedentary behavior. Be mindful of workload and encourage healthy work-life balance. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat do you think about Alliance participating in the Ecochallenge?
Angela Orta 4/24/2025 1:48 PM- Pet Parent 🐾
- 17-DAY STREAK
It provided a structured and engaging platform for employees to connect with each other around a shared purpose, fostering a stronger sense of community within the organization. It encouraged specific, measurable actions, allowing us to see the collective impact of our efforts. Overall, I believe Alliance's participation in the Ecochallenge is a valuable investment in our communities, our employees, and the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat is one way you can reduce your impact on nature the next time you spend time outdoors, and how might that action help preserve the environment for others?
Angela Orta 4/24/2025 1:43 PM- Pet Parent 🐾
- 17-DAY STREAK
When people create their own paths, it can lead to the need for additional trail maintenance and restoration efforts, which can be costly and disruptive to the environment. Following established trails helps keep maintenance needs manageable.-
Delaine Spangler 4/26/2025 5:17 AMYes! Love this! It's so important to stay on the designated paths--wildlife typically know the paths that humans stay on, so it avoids disturbing them as well!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!

- 17-DAY STREAK
Planting something, whether it's a seed, a seedling, or a mature plant, evoked a feeling of hope and connection to the future. There's a tangible act of creation involved, placing something small into the earth with the expectation of growth and life. It felt like making a small investment in the future, both for myself (enjoying the eventual fruits and vegetables) and for the environment, however small the contribution.
