REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Ecological & Xeriscape GardeningWhat ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?
Rachel Orrison 4/28/2023 3:26 PMI really wanted to work on this goal, but it doesn't look like it will happen this month. Maybe later in the summer! I'm definitely going to get a load of mulch but need some better weekend weather and time to manage it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Donate FoodWhy do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?
Rachel Orrison 4/28/2023 5:04 AMSharing what you can is important to make sure as a community we support each other. Being mindful of what you can do and even asking for help yourself if needed should be engrained in our society. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Watch a Documentary About Climate Change or NatureWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Rachel Orrison 4/27/2023 1:23 PMWe watched Chasing Coral. I love snorkeling and it was interesting and sad to better understand the challenges facing reefs. -
Rachel Orrison 4/27/2023 5:14 AMIf you are looking for reusable "ziploc" bags, I highly recommend Stasher bags! Best one's we've used for sure. Dishwasher safe, easy to open/close, even for kids.-
Malia Rains 4/28/2023 8:58 AMThey sometimes sell them at Costco too!

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the clean energy shift?
Rachel Orrison 4/26/2023 10:52 AMI feel like lots of people are semi-supportive, but talking about it more and sharing actions taken could encourage them to see how they too can take next steps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Volunteer in My CommunityWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
Rachel Orrison 4/26/2023 10:49 AMI volunteer to coach soccer at my boy's school - I think outdoor play is so important, and I love to see them breathing fresh air and getting exercise with their friends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & Communities Analyze Your Utility BillsWhat was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?
Rachel Orrison 4/24/2023 5:11 AMWhile I did this, it was hard I felt to get a lot of understanding from the utility bills. I wonder if the utility companies could help people better understand their usage on their bills? -
Rachel Orrison 4/24/2023 5:08 AMI did not want to go outside on Saturday - after all the nice weather it was cold and windy. But at the same time I felt weird now NOT having outside time, so I braved the weather and was glad I did. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Watch a Documentary About Equity, Gender, Health, or PeaceWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Rachel Orrison 4/24/2023 5:06 AMWe watched The Lost Forest - it was interesting to think of how we can get a "baseline" on what has been happening with climate change, and what the man-made direct impacts are in addition to that. This was related to the Nobel Peace Prize, and it was heartening to see the scientists from around the globe working together. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Practice MindfulnessWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Rachel Orrison 4/21/2023 5:25 AMI really enjoy how I notice more things. It brings a peacefulness and extra level of enjoyment. On a mindfulness walk through my neighborhood I was enjoy the spring growth and realized that there was also a beautiful smell coming from the cherry blooms. Usually I would have just kept walking but I decided to stop and actually soak it in for a minute.-
