I learned from a lot of the youth activists today that young people do have a strong voice and that no matter our age, we can still inspire change. I was inspired because their are a lot of activists that are 17 like I am and they have the courage and strength to speak their minds and their beliefs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Empowering the Next Generation
Who is the young leader you learned about, and what at inspired you most about them? How can you support or amplify the work of young leaders in your own community?

I learned about Greta Thunberg and I was most inspired by the fact that she is so young yet so passionate about what she believes in and that she has the courage to speak out about environmental injustices. One way we could support her is to post about her on social media and about everything she is doing and saying. Since so many people are on social media, it will hopefully help spread awareness.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Melina MartinezViaud 4/30/2025 7:13 PM
Joining a group made me feel more supported since it made me feel understood to be within friends that have the same goals, beliefs and interests. I think that being part of a group is important because people like being valued and a part of a community.

I helped teach a few people how to sew and how to make basic patterns for clothing making. I loved being able to share my knowledge since sewing and designing is something I love and seeing people enjoy what I teach them makes me even happier.

I purchased a new tote bag made entirely of recycled plastics collected from the ocean. I thought it was great since the trash picked up in the ocean was turned into something else rather than being thrown into a landfill where it wouldn't biodegrade.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Sustainable Innovation
What did you learn about the practice and benefits of regenerative agriculture? How can you support healthy farming practices for people and the planet?

    Melina MartinezViaud's avatar
    Melina MartinezViaud 4/28/2025 1:03 PM
I learned that regenerative agriculture is great for the soil because it helps the soil become healthier again, meaning it becomes filled with nutrients and minerals for an increase in biodiversity. Healthy farming practices are better for people and the planet since it can grow restore plants and biodiversity and with more trees the greenhouse gases can be reduced.

I didn't realize how much water one person uses a day. I think our family could start by getting a new dishwasher since ours is broken, and having to wash dishes by hand everyday uses so much water, especially with 5 people living in our house.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
How did being mindful of vehicle idling change your perspective on fuel consumption and air quality? What other transportation habits can you adopt to reduce your environmental impact?

    Melina MartinezViaud's avatar
    Melina MartinezViaud 4/27/2025 10:59 AM
It showed me that doing small things still matters; although turning off your engine seems like something insignificant, if everyone did it then it could have a significant impact on our environment. Another thing we should all do is try to carpool as often as possible instead of taking the car out alone. I hadn't realized how many people have cars until I was in the carpool lane on the freeway, noticing how many people drive alone.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Melina MartinezViaud 4/24/2025 2:54 PM
I love gardening and planting plants since I find it's fun to grow some of your own food. I especially love seeing the progress of the plants as they grow but to improve my skills, I think I should learn more about the different soils plants need to ensure the best chance of growth.
