Empowering the Next Generation
Support a Youth-Led Project
Youth-led projects drive innovation and change. I will support youth-led environmental projects by offering time, resources, or encouragement and share how I supported youth on the Ecochallenge feed.
Sustainable Innovation
Choose a Product Made with Sustainable Materials
Every choice matters. I will purchase or switch to products made from sustainable or recycled materials to support innovation and reduce environmental impact.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Sustainable Innovation
Advocate For Better Food Packaging
When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 60 minutes of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.
Health and Well-Being
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Environmental issues often impact marginalized communities the most. I will spend 30 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Empowering the Next Generation
Support a School
Schools play a crucial role in youth development and be hubs for sustainability. I will donate funds, time, or supplies to 1 local schools to support environmental education, field trips, sustainability projects, and youth empowerment. I will share how I supported schools on the feed.
Sustainable Innovation
Learn about Sustainable Innovation
Innovation can create a more sustainable world. I will spend 30 minutes learning about new materials, technologies, ideas, or practices that help solve environmental challenges and improve our planet's future.
Empowering the Next Generation
Learn about a Young Leader
Young people are making a big impact on the world. I will spend 30 minutes learning about a young leader working on environmental or social justice issues to get inspired and share their story on social media or the Ecochallenge feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Community and Connection
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services to support my community, such as helping someone with a task, tutoring, repairing something, or volunteering my expertise.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 5 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.
Community and Connection
Explore My Area
Discovering what’s nearby fosters a deeper connection to my community. I will explore 10 new places in my area, such as parks, historical sites, or local businesses.
Land, Water, and Air
Collect Rain Water
Rainwater collection reduces water waste and supports gardens. I will install a rain barrel or collect rainwater to use for 1 outdoor tasks, such as watering plants or cleaning.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Wildlife
Try At Least One Principle of Leave No Trace
After learning about the Principles of Leave No Trace, I will take at least one action to minimize my impact on the outdoors while enjoying nature. I will post what I tried to the feed to encourage others to do the same!
Wildlife
Learn to Grow Plants Your Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 20 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat impressed you most about the youth-led project you supported, and how did your involvement help?
Auldren Schappelle 4/29/2025 10:34 AMThe school I helped with their little garden was quite impressive. I was shocked to see how much had already been done by the kids there. While my help was useful, I feel as though those kids were impressive enough that they could have probably finished the whole thing before I even got there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationHow can schools play a bigger role in shaping future environmental leaders, and how can you support them?
Auldren Schappelle 4/29/2025 10:26 AMSchools play an important role because of what they can teach the kids who learn there. For example, right now I am taking an environmental science class. Classes like the one I am in right now can help shape the future for environmental leaders. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWho is the young leader you learned about, and what at inspired you most about them? How can you support or amplify the work of young leaders in your own community?
Auldren Schappelle 4/29/2025 10:24 AMI spent more time learning about Greta Thunberg (an obvious answer to the question, but I still had some knowledge gaps to fill about her). I was inspired to learn more about her actions because of what we learned about what she did earlier in this class. It's always important to stand behind these sorts of young leaders because they are our future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat sustainable product did you purchase, and how does it align with your values?
Auldren Schappelle 4/24/2025 11:19 AMI purchased some reusable packaging for the food I have in my home. A lot of our food is currently stored in non-reusable packaging, and changing that would allow me to enjoy my food without the cost to the planet.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat actions did you take to advocate for sustainable food packaging, and how were they received? How do you think widespread changes in food packaging could benefit the planet?
Auldren Schappelle 4/24/2025 11:16 AMI signed several online petitions (not a large impact, but it still helps in a way). Widespread changes in food packaging would lead to a large decrease in pollution of the ocean with plastics, as many times food is packaged in plastic, and hundreds of millions of people eat food packaged in plastic per day.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat industries or sectors do you believe have the greatest potential to benefit from sustainable innovation, and how could they drive meaningful change? How do you think sustainable innovation will influence our future?
Auldren Schappelle 4/24/2025 11:14 AMThe mobile delivery industry, like Amazon, is known for putting small things in massive boxes. If they were to package more sustainably, they would waste far fewer resources than they do now.-

- 17-DAY STREAK
I do believe we should avoid large companies like Amazon and buy locally to support local businesses and add to the local money multiplying effect.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWho is most affected by environmental degration or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected? What actions can you take to support those affected by these issues?
Auldren Schappelle 4/24/2025 10:49 AMPeople who live near areas that are neglected are most affected because they see the damage every day. I lived near one of these areas at one point, and it was very sad to see it every day. The most important thing to do to support those people is to help clean up those areas, as keeping them neat will bring them joy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you do to prepare for extreme weather events? Share any tips or resources you found helpful in the feed!
Auldren Schappelle 4/24/2025 10:45 AMI made a few simple first aid kits that would help in case of a minor injury, and some food kits that could be taken with you to help survive an extreme weather event. Something to remember is to always make these sort of kits mobile. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What changes did you make to improve your sleep, and how did they affect your day?
Auldren Schappelle 4/24/2025 10:42 AMUnfortunately, this one did not work for me. I still get around 4 hours of sleep per night, and despite my best efforts here, nothing changed. I would like to be able to sleep for at least 2 more hours per night, but thus far, I have not been able to figure out how to. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeAre you a gardener or house plant lover? Why or why not? What do you need to elevate your plant care skills?
Auldren Schappelle 4/21/2025 2:51 PMI am more of a gardener than someone who enjoys houseplants. I prefer dirt to be outside, not making messes inside my home. I should take a gardening class to truely master the art of gardening.
