Danny's actions
Land + Forests
Carry My Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me this month, to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill. I will post on the feed my reflections, conversations, and actions I will take moving forward.
Action Track: Community
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 10 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 8 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Understand My Water FootprintWhat did you learn about your water footprint and what are you going to do to reduce and be aware of the water you use?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/26/2024 3:04 PMI learned that a water footprint is sort of like a tracker that checks how much water is needed to produce goods. I will reduce the amount of time I spend in the shower and as well as turning off the water while I am shaving or brushing my teeth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Sustainability Lunch and LearnWho did you engage in your lunch and learn? What resources did you use? How did it go and what did you learn?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/26/2024 3:01 PMDuring our lunch and learn, my friend and I talked about eco-friendly gardening. We used online guides, books, and what we've learned from our own gardens. It was very engaging. We exchanged tips on composting, keeping pests away naturally, and starting seeds at home. We also realized how important it is to have a variety of plants and to garden without chemicals. It made us excited to talk about gardening when neither of us have ever planted a seed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/25/2024 3:15 PMThe simple act of picking up litter connects me more to my community because I am engaging my time into making the neighborhood a cleaner environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Carry My TrashThis is no small task! What was eye-opening to you throughout this action? How will you change your actions going forward to reduce the waste you produce?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/25/2024 3:13 PMWhat was the most eye opening to me during this process was that I realized how simple it is to just carry your own trash away but somehow we still have problems with waste being thrown on the ground. I will advocate to people I know to carry their trash and dispose of it appropriately -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water BottleWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/18/2024 3:53 PMI found out we use way too much plastic, which hurts the environment. To cut down, I'll switch to reusable stuff, avoid one-time plastic, and buy from eco-friendly companies.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Consume only Needs vs WantsConsuming only what we need vs. what we want can be really hard to do. What has been challenging about committing to this action for a month? What have you learned about yourself? Will you change any habits going forward?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/18/2024 3:52 PMChoosing to consume only what we truly need instead of what we simply want has been tough. It's hard to resist the urge to splurge and rethink what's truly important. I've realized I tend to overdo it and need to be more mindful about what I consume. From now on, I'll focus on what I need and try to live more sustainably.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Declutter My Home Without the LandfillHow did it feel to intentionally declutter with putting things into the landfill? What did you learn along the way about yourself and our consumer and waste systems?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/18/2024 3:51 PMIntentionally decluttering while mindful of landfill impact felt like a necessary challenge. It taught me to be more conscious of my consumption habits and the consequences they carry. Along the way, I learned to prioritize sustainability and mindful consumption, realizing the importance of reducing waste and reevaluating what truly adds value to my life.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Calculate My Carbon ImpactWhere in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?
Danny Hernandez Acevedo 4/14/2024 8:53 PMI'd say the area where I emit the most carbon is probably during my daily commute to work. To reduce this output, I'm willing to switch to carpooling or using public transportation more often.
