Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG 6
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Health & Equity
Communicate Constructively
SDG 16
I will use the communication methods I read about to practice effective, compassionate, and nonviolent communication with someone I interact with regularly (i.e., my roommate, parents, co-worker, partner, classmates, or children).
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG 3
I will replace 5 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Health & Equity
Practice Mindfulness
SDG 3
I will spend 10 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.
Economy & Communities
Mend Clothing
SDG 9
I will mend clothing for myself, family or friends.
Climate & Ecosystems
Plant a Tree
SDG 15
On average, a tree absorbs 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of carbon dioxide yearly during the first 20 years. To do my part, I will plant 1 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Climate & Ecosystems
Explore My Area
SDG 14, 15
Each day, I will spend 10 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Climate & Ecosystems
Attend Emerson's Global Earth Week Webinar
On Wed 19th April, I will attend Emerson's Global Earth Week Webinar to learn about the importance of individual action in our collective journey to sustainability.
Climate & Ecosystems
Sign up to receive news on Sustainability at Emerson
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY and WITH news.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Diana Guerra 4/27/2023 6:25 AMI think that people who spend a lot of time inside and on screens loose a lot. There are so many wonderful things outside. The sky changes it colors and shades every day, it is never the same. Listening to the birds or even the wind in the trees... I really enjoy the "small" miracles that nature gives to us every single day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Plant a TreeHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Diana Guerra 4/26/2023 10:47 AMI planted a lemon tree on my yard. My husband and I felt so happy! It might seem something small, but we are very excited to see it grow, bring benefits to birds and butterflies, give extra shadow to our dogs, and a lot of lemons of course! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less ShowersWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Diana Guerra 4/17/2023 5:28 AMHummingbirds and bees!!
I just saw a documentary called The Hummingbird Effect, it is impressive the impact such a small bird has on the ecosystem. They make possible the reproduction of plants and trees, providing food for a lot of species. Incredible!
