Megha's actions
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Action Track: Community
Share My "Why"
I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.
Action Track: Community
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 2 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Climate + Air
Choose Renewable Energy
Renewable energy options are becoming more widespread and accessible. Not only are they good for the planet, they can help save money as well. I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option. If my utility does not offer one, I will contact them to advocate for this option in the future.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Climate + Air
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Endangered Species
Wildlife and biodiversity play an important role on our planet and are being threatened each year. I will spend 10 minutes each day learning about the current status of local or global wildlife and how I can align my actions to support their livelihood.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 10 hours in my community.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Invest in Nature
A healthy world needs both our daily actions and support from larger systems. I will spend 10 minutes learning about how I can use my investments and savings to advance environmental sustainability.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Beauty and Personal Products
Beauty and personal products can create a lot of waste. I will spend 10 minutes learning about the beauty and body products I use to see if they are refillable or recyclable. If not, I will reach out to the manufacturer to advocate for those options.
Freshwater + Oceans
Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning
Understanding cleaning product ingredients and their effect on water and biodiversity is helpful to our consumer choices. I will spend 10 minutes learning about how cleaning products affect our water and try making my own cleaning products to reduce pollutants.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 10 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Land + Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will look for sustainable palm oil products with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSP) label. I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation and opt for ones that help sustain healthy communities and forests.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 60 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Land + Forests
Carry My Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me this month, to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill. I will post on the feed my reflections, conversations, and actions I will take moving forward.
Land + Forests
Personal Waste Audit
The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.

Megha Gola 4/23/2024 9:09 PMYou can easily compost in your own kitchen, balcony, or back yard. This provides your plants with great nutrition and keeps more food waste out of the landfill.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Sustainability Lunch and LearnWho did you engage in your lunch and learn? What resources did you use? How did it go and what did you learn?
Megha Gola 4/21/2024 9:48 PMEngaged with people in neighborhood; discussed various issues related to environment and how can we contribute to that. Great ideas came forward and we started with cleaning the neighborhood green patch and planted trees. -
Megha Gola 4/21/2024 9:37 PMEmissions from aviation could take up one-sixth of the carbon budget remaining to limit 1.5 degrees of global warming. Within the aviation industry, options for rapid decarbonisation are slow and limited. Therefore, personally limiting flights is the best way to reduce emissions. This is until sustainable aviation has become a viable, mainstream alternative.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Borrow Before I BuyHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Megha Gola 4/21/2024 9:09 AMThe sharing economy has enabled many people to live a life that is relatively independent and flexible while sharing their resources and talents with others like them. It can allow participants to make extra money by pooling unused resources, which decreases the resources that each individual needs to own. -
Megha Gola 4/21/2024 8:05 AMInvest in tech that lasts. Electronics can last longer with proper care! Repair and upgrade your devices instead of replacing them. Buying electronic products with ethical practices and recycled materials improves the longevity of tech.-
William Sarmiento 4/21/2024 8:09 AMAgree! Let us also be mindful of proper waste disposal of electronic products.

Megha Gola 4/18/2024 9:33 PMGreen spaces, such as parks and gardens, are important. They absorb carbon dioxide and are associated with lower levels of air pollution.Create your own green space. Add pot plants to your windowsill or balcony, and if you have your own outdoor space, don't replace the grass with paving or artificial turf.-
PRATEEK SINGHVI 4/18/2024 9:51 PMONE IMPACT YOU SEE IF YOU HAVE GREEN SPACE AROUND YOUR ABODE IS THAT IT WILL ABSORBS IMMESE AMOUNT OF HEAT DURING SUMMERS AND PROVIDE NICE SOTHING BREZZE TO BREATHE......FRESH OXYGEN

Megha Gola 4/16/2024 8:40 PMBy making small changes in our daily routines such as opting for car-sharing instead of owning a private vehicle or choosing a plant-based diet over meat consumption; reusing food scraps rather than throwing them away; avoiding chemical-based pesticides plus using renewable energy sources wherever possible - we all can play an active role in fostering a more ecologically balanced world.-

Megha Gola 4/15/2024 8:22 PMSegregating waste is really simple. All you need to do is use two bins instead of one. All wet waste (food waste, soiled plain paper and anything biodegradable) goes into one. All dry waste into another.
Simple act greater impact.-
ARSH KHAN 4/15/2024 10:11 PMSimple yet impactful act. Very precise. -
ARSH KHAN 4/15/2024 10:11 PMSimple yet impactful act. Very precise. -
SHASHWAT MISHRA 4/15/2024 8:35 PMAbsolutely! Segregating waste might seem like a small step, but its impact is monumental. By separating wet and dry waste, we're not just tidying up our surroundings; we're paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future. Every bit counts towards a healthier planet! 🌱 #GoGreen #Sustainability.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Personal Waste AuditWhat are the results of your waste audit and what did you learn? How can you reduce your waste going forward?
Megha Gola 4/15/2024 3:07 AMWaste audit helped me in understanding how to minimize their environmental impact, reduce costs, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Few tips I will follow to make small changes that are eco-friendly and will have a lasting effect on the environment.
1. Use a reusable bottle/cup for beverages on-the-go
2.Use reusable grocery bags, and not just for groceries
3.Avoid single-use food and drink containers and utensils
4.Shop local farmers markets and buy in bulk to reduce packaging
