Saved some Whole Foods food from going to waste. While I hate that it's packaged in plastic, these bins are great for reuse. My son likes them for storing his soccer trading cards.

I always feel conflicted when I save expiring prepared food at Whole Foods that is packaged in a clamshell. Ugh. Luckily New Seasons recycles #1 clear plastic, which they turn into "new" clamshells that they use in store.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?

I saved half of today's Kanteen tuna melt for tomorrow. No waste and it helps with portion size control.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How did keeping your community more clean connect you more to your local area? Did picking up litter change your perspective on the cleanliness of your community?

It always feels good to pitch in and clean up my neighborhood. Today felt especially good to clear a bunch of broken glass around the bus stop where kids wait for the bus. I'm glad the eco-challenge motivated me to take 10 minutes before work to walk around the block.

Pro tip: Whole Foods marks expiring prepared food 50% off. Today I got Chicken Tikka masala, and the other day I got a yummy pasta salad.
