Ginny's actions
Community and Connection
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 1 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
Community and Connection
Keep My Community Clean
A clean community benefits everyone. Each day I am outside, I will pick up 5 pieces of litter to keep my community clean.
Sustainable Innovation
Recharge gadgets with solar
Use solar power to recharge my family's phones and tablets
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy Fruits and Veggies
Adding fruits and vegetables to our meals nourishes our body and the planet. I will prepare and enjoy 1 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and veggies.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Wildlife
Try At Least One Principle of Leave No Trace
After learning about the Principles of Leave No Trace, I will take at least one action to minimize my impact on the outdoors while enjoying nature. I will post what I tried to the feed to encourage others to do the same!
Health and Well-Being
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 20 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Wildlife
Learn to Grow Plants Your Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 20 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 2 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Sustainable Innovation
Public Transport to Event
Take public transportation instead of driving to an event in town

Ginny Figlar 4/10/2025 11:54 AMI always feel conflicted when I save expiring prepared food at Whole Foods that is packaged in a clamshell. Ugh. Luckily New Seasons recycles #1 clear plastic, which they turn into "new" clamshells that they use in store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?
Ginny Figlar 4/09/2025 7:08 AMI saved half of today's Kanteen tuna melt for tomorrow. No waste and it helps with portion size control. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did keeping your community more clean connect you more to your local area? Did picking up litter change your perspective on the cleanliness of your community?
Ginny Figlar 4/02/2025 9:27 PMIt always feels good to pitch in and clean up my neighborhood. Today felt especially good to clear a bunch of broken glass around the bus stop where kids wait for the bus. I'm glad the eco-challenge motivated me to take 10 minutes before work to walk around the block. -
Ginny Figlar 4/01/2025 12:35 PMPro tip: Whole Foods marks expiring prepared food 50% off. Today I got Chicken Tikka masala, and the other day I got a yummy pasta salad.-
