Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.

Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Go Plastic-FreeWhere did plastic show up on your life that surprised you the most? What plastic alternative products did you discover you may switch to?
Monalyn Esmenda 4/04/2024 5:22 PMI was surprised to see how much plastic showed up in my life during trips to the beach and waterfalls. It's disheartening to find plastic littering in such beautiful natural spaces. In response, alternatives like wooden spoons and forks, paper cups and plates may be used. We can also use eco bags as these are not only reusable but also come in handy for carrying items during outdoor adventures. Making the switch to these items is a small but meaningful step towards reducing my plastic footprint and protecting our environment. 🌱-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Monalyn Esmenda 4/01/2024 4:49 PMSpending time outside has made me feel more connected to nature and rejuvenated. I've noticed significant improvement in my mood and overall well-being. Being surrounded by greenery has reduced my stress levels and help me feel more grounded and present in the moment. I've found that spending time outside consistently has been essential for my mental and emotional health, providing me with a sense of peace and balance in my life. -
Monalyn Esmenda 3/31/2024 6:57 PMSo far, my conservation efforts are going well. I have been reducing my water usage by taking shorter showers and fixing leaks around the house. Additionally, we diligently do composting kitchen waste to reduce landfill contributions. Overall, I am pleased with the positive impact I'm making on the environment.-
Czarhina Ng 3/31/2024 8:17 PMThat's a good practice Monalyn. Keep it going!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Understand My Water FootprintWhat did you learn about your water footprint and what are you going to do to reduce and be aware of the water you use?
Monalyn Esmenda 3/31/2024 6:53 PMI learned today about the concept of quantifying the amount of water used directly or indirectly by individuals, households, businesses and communities. This includes not only the water consumed for drinking, cooking, and sanitation but also the water embedded in the products we use, the food we eat, and the energy we consume.
