Before, I do not bring my own tumbler or mug, I realized that it is more hygienic and very sustainable. All we have to do is to take time and reflect on our actions everyday.

Turning off our computers/laptops on time helps conserve energy. And with extra time, we can do other things like grow plants, clean the house and spend quality time with our loved ones.

I will review and re-assess the things I use that causes waste and think of ways to lessen them. The second thing I will do is discuss with my family and plan further.

Use a reusable shopping bag or "eco bag", you can decrease the resources used on plastic bag production and disposal and protect the environment from plastic pollution. In this way, you save money, look stylish and enjoy a better quality of life.

Climate change is making us all think about the way we use water. You may not realize it, but how you shower, clean your dishes and water your garden impacts the environment.

Saving water has never been more important, and by making a few small changes at home, you'll not only reduce your water use, but you can also save energy and money on your water bills, too.
Here are some ways you can save water at home:
    • Check all faucets, pipes and toilets for leaks.
    • Install water saving showerheads and ultra-low-flush toilets.
    • Take shorter showers.
    • Never use your toilet as a wastebasket.
    • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
    • Defrost frozen food in the refrigerator.
    • Rinse vegetables in a full sink or pan of water.
    • Fully load your dishwasher.
    • Rinse dishes in a full sink or pan of water.
    • Wash full loads of clothes.

Here are some tips from the DOE to conserve electricity and also save some cash from high electricity bills:

    1. Regularly maintain air-conditioners.
By regularly cleaning the filters and condensers of a one horsepower conventional air-con unit, you will save PHP100 monthly.

    2. Turn off the lights when not needed.
Turning off one light bulb for six hours will save you PHP25 a month.

    3. Use LED lights.
Convert your lighting system from compact fluorescent light to light-emitting diode or LED as it saves as much as 50 percent of energy.

    4. Unplug unused electric appliances.
Leaving unused electric appliances on standby still consumes energy. For example, a cathode-ray tube television and its digital box on standby mode still consume 16 watts, which is equivalent to PHP57.60 wasted electricity in a month.

    5. Clean your fridge and avoid opening it longer than necessary.
Do not open the refrigerator for a longer time since refrigerator door opening accounts for seven percent of the consumption assuming you open the fridge door 42 times in a day.

LED's use up to 90% less energy and last much longer than other lighting types. A good quality LED bulb can last 3 to 5 times longer than a CFL and 30 times longer than an incandescent bulb. LEDs emit very little heat which reduce the risk of combustion and burnt fingers. In comparison, incandescent bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat and CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) release about 80% of their energy as heat.

Switch to LED's, they are much safer, sturdier, long lasting and easier to install.

According to the United Nations' (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization, uneaten food, including peel, generates 8%-10% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. (Food rotting in landfills releases methane, the most potent greenhouse gas.). So everyday, we use vegetable and fruit peelings as fertilizer to our plants on our rooftop, this is cheaper than buying fertilizer, plus, you help eliminate pollution.
