Carla's actions
Soil and Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 5 meatless meals meals each day.
Personal
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 10 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Soil and Food
Learn How to Save Pollinators
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spend 10 minutes learning how to support local pollinators and take at least one action—such as planting native flowers or avoiding pesticides—to help sustain resilient ecosystems and harvests.
Personal
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Soil and Food
Compost My Food Waste
Composting turns waste into a resource, building soil health and cutting methane emissions from landfills. I will compost food scraps at home, school, or in my community, which avoids sending up to 0.42 lbs (0.19 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day.
Water
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Water
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat did you notice about how much of your food waste could be composted? How does composting change the way you see “waste”?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?
Carla Elberson 4/08/2026 6:58 AMI wash some dishes and glasses by hand. I wash them all first, and then rinse all at once. It seems to use less water. It's hard not to waste water while waiting for hot water in my kitchen. I wonder if hot water is necessary.-

I l read some good tips for exactly that issue as I have the same problem. Run the water into a container instead of down the drain while waiting for it to get hot. the container of water can be used for watering plants or other cleaning tasks that don't require hot water.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhat did you learn about the role of pollinators in food systems? Did you take any action to support pollinators? If so, share a picture in the feed!
Carla Elberson 4/06/2026 8:56 AMI learned about pollinators in food systems several years ago as a member of my church's Green Team. As a result, I designed and helped plant and maintain a pollinator garden for many years. I have also planted many native plants in my own yard, especially viburnum, winter berry, and Eastern redbud. I have recently changed out two non native laurel shrubs with a juniper and a Carolina Sweet Shrub.-
