I'm pleased to learn that one of my favorite animal species, the sea otter, is a keystone species. They eat sea urchins, which keeps them from overfeeding on sea kelp forests. The sea kelp forests are home to many other species in the ecosystem. The cuteness of the Sea Otter is good enough to make sure they survive, but knowing that they are a keystone species makes it even more important to ensure these cute animals stick around.

Thank you for sharing this resource! One of my favorite animals is the North American River Otter and after looking it up I found that they are also a keystone species. In my local area, the population of river otters suffered a sharp decline in the early 1900s but have since made a resurgence due to successful conservation efforts!
