I felt more relaxed and uplifted in spirit when leaving each of these places.

Tesh's actions
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 2 hours in my community.
Action Track: Community
Pick Up the Phone
I will gather a group of friends, family, neighbors or colleagues to make 5 phone calls to public officials or companies to advocate for planet-friendly policies.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 15 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Climate + Air
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Action Track: Community
Share My "Why"
I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Freshwater + Oceans
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 15 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 1 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Land + Forests
Personal Waste Audit
The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Plastic in Clothing and Water
Synthetic clothing can contain plastic and shed harmful microplastics into our water. I will use a microplastics catcher in my laundry, or install a microplastics filter for my washing machine.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Biodiversity and Me
I will spend at least 15 minutes each day researching what biodiversity is, how biodiversity positively impacts our world, and how the loss of biodiversity harms it. I will share what I learn on the feed.
Climate + Air
Stay on the Ground
Carbon emissions from air travel is harmful to planetary and human health. Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Climate + Air
Online Energy Audit
Energy use and waste is often invisible. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Climate + Air
Write Letters or Emails
I will gather a group of friends, family, neighbors or colleagues and write 3 letters or emails to public officials or companies to advocate for planet-friendly policies.
Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 10 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Land + Forests
Advocate for Forest Protection
Using my voice can help create a more sustainable and just world. I will contact 2 local, regional, or national decision makers to advocate for public policy that protects forests and improves their ability to sequester carbon and nourish biodiversity.
Land + Forests
Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper
Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. Buying products that help protect forests makes a difference. I will only purchase wood, furniture, and paper products from ecologically certified sources such as Forest Stewardship Council.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Explore My AreaWhere did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?
Tesh Burke 4/30/2024 1:15 PMOver the whole month, I took walks in several different places: the Smoky Mountains, Radnor Lake, and parts of the Appalachian Mountain system. On each of these walks, I took time to observe, listen, and take in what each space offered.
I felt more relaxed and uplifted in spirit when leaving each of these places. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Online Energy AuditWhere did you do an energy audit (work, home, school, other) and what did you learn?
Tesh Burke 4/30/2024 1:04 PMMy energy audit was done both at work and at home. It allowed me to pause and rethink how my energy is used daily. I know it's a learning process, so I'm taking it slow to find what really works for me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Join a Cleanup EffortHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel? What results did you see? Please consider posting a photo of your cleanup!
Tesh Burke 4/29/2024 2:44 AMHelping your local communities clean up speaks to me about the locals' pride in their neighborhood. It takes a village and commitment to keep your community clean. When the community comes together and teaches this to young people, it gives everyone pride in their community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Plastic in Clothing and WaterHow did you try to catch the release of microplastics in your laundry? What did you learn in the process?
Tesh Burke 4/29/2024 2:38 AMI used the Gruppyfriend in my washer, which helped catch microplastic. It is eye-opening to see how much microplastic is in your clothes. I learned to continue to discover what's in my water and clothing. We also need more information that clarifies wis hat' about what's clothing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Save the BeesWhat did you plant for bees in your area? Please consider uploading a photo!
-
Dina Lomagno 4/25/2024 2:35 PMHave you seen the new "bee flower"? You can put it in your flowers to attract more pollinators! It's pretty neat, I just ordered one.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Tesh Burke 4/25/2024 4:12 AMGetting involved in your local community allows you to see what's impacting it, build relationships with neighbors that you may not know, and see that it takes a village to make a community work together. When you help a friend, neighbor, or just another human, it has a rippling impact on so many more than just that one individual. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and OceansWhat did you learn about freshwater and oceans you did not already know? In sharing this information with people in your life, which conversation was impactful to you?
Tesh Burke 4/18/2024 4:04 AMHow much freshwater does a leaky pipe waste in a house, 700-1400 gallons daily? A human only needs 64 gallons of fresh water in a month. Toilets are one of the most significant issues regarding in-house leaking freshwater.
I share this information with other family members about the importance of checking pipes and toilets more frequently.-
Holly Curry 4/19/2024 6:33 PMWow only 64 gallons!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Pick Up the PhoneWhat do all of us have in common, regardless of politics, race, religion, occupation, or place we live? How can finding common ground help us as a society and as a species?
Tesh Burke 4/18/2024 3:55 AMNot to simplify the question, but if we all show a little kindness, actively listen, and appreciate open thought with the intention that it doesn't overall impact a relationship, then the world, in my opinion, would improve. We can only solve the larger issues the world has at its doorstep if we see potential in everyone and what they have to offer.-
Dina Lomagno 4/25/2024 4:01 PMI 100% agree, it starts with each individual that leads to the collective change!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Zero Waste DayWhat was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?
Tesh Burke 4/14/2024 4:23 AMIt required me to change my daily habits, such as going to the farmer's market, which is only open on weekends. I learned that I need to plan better and have recyclable containers for everything that I can purchase fresh. It is eye-opening how challenging it is to be entirely waste-free for 24 hours. Everyone should try this.-
Holly Curry 4/16/2024 5:04 PM👀 great learning!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Write Letters or EmailsHow might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems - like plastic pollution - differently?
Tesh Burke 4/14/2024 4:16 AMWe need to understand that if we want change, it will take a mid-shift. We didn't use plastic until after WWII, and it took off during the 1960s—70s. What we need to do is make another significant shift away from plastic so all manufacturers and consumers embrace it. Plastic will only be replaced if there is a better alternative and it is cost-effective for the manufacturer and consumers. We need to set some goals for 2050, which is about the right amount of time required to shift away from plastic.
