  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health & Equity Support Public Transit
How can/do residents get involved in community decision making in your area? What stakeholders are involved in the economic aspect of planning decisions in your community?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/30/2023 12:03 AM
The residents can get involved using forum tools to allow for online community discussion where people can comment on various discussion topics and “vote” on them. The Town Hall is organizing online meetings where citizens can attend and debate different proposal before being selected.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Education & Livelihood Research Impact Investing
After learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/29/2023 11:56 PM
As an investor I always look at a company's commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) or the sense of duty to positively serve society, before investing. And as example I have started to invest in a clean and renewable energy ETF. Moreover, I am lucky enough to work for a company that is focused on driving innovation for a greener future.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Economy & Communities Chat With A Nonprofit
What was one nonprofit organization that was exciting to learn about?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/29/2023 11:34 PM
The nonprofit organization I learnt about is called "One hot meal". This non profit provides a hot meal to the people in the community that are most vulnerable and not as fortunate to be able to have a hot meal every day. They cook in kitchens equipped with own funds or rented in the community. They haven't taken a week off since they have started and they continue to make plans for the future because nothing compares to the feeling of having contributed to the community you are a part of and by helping the less fortunate. You can either volunteer to cook or to donate food.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Economy & Communities Online Energy Audit
What most interested or surprised you about your energy audit?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/29/2023 1:44 AM
It surprised me to see how much I can save on energy consumption and costs by unplugging the electronics I do not use frequently and by reducing the water temperature.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Economy & Communities Replace Manual Thermostats
How do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for programmable ones will positively impact your life?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/29/2023 1:39 AM
A smart thermostat will be able to learn my household's patterns and adjust heating and cooling accordingly. This will reduce the use of heating and cooling systems when nobody is home for significant periods of time, which translates into saving costs.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate & Ecosystems Plant a Tree
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/29/2023 1:33 AM
I love planting fruit trees, to see them growing and producing fruits. This is very much linked to my childhood memories, as we had a big orchard and I was always planting trees with my father. Planting trees gives me a sense of purpose and belongingness.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Economy & Communities Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the clean energy shift?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/29/2023 1:27 AM
I think by being a role model and talking about it in your community. For example, reducing car use and use of fossil fuels. Shifting away from car use towards use of more sustainable transport modes such as public transport and cycling or using a full electric car etc.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health & Equity Advocate for Equitable Food Access
How is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?

    Ioana Bontas-Pop's avatar
    Ioana Bontas-Pop 4/29/2023 1:23 AM
Food equity is the right to adequate food. Is a universal human right that is realized when all people have physical and economic access at all times to adequate food or the means for its procurement, without discrimination of any kind. Since the 1990’s, people started to eat more processed and fast foods. Our food systems are also becoming more uniform as the variety of crops we farm and consume has fallen dramatically, replacing the wholesome and nutritious diets of the past. One causal factor is today’s mischievous marketing strategies supported by culturally dominant narratives, which affect our consumption patterns and eating habits.

To ensure a more sustainable future we should focus on healthy, sustainably produced and culturally diverse food choices that need to be provided and promoted. Greater state investments, recovery of confidence in cultural heritage and better financing of destitute groups are vital.
