Roberto's actions
Action Track: Community
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 10 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Freshwater + Oceans
Cooking Oil Disposal
Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Climate + Air
Low Carbon Diet
Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Roberto Arraya 4/26/2024 6:58 AMThe more you learn about minimalism, the more interesting it gets. The idea of living with less really appeals to me because the more you have, the more chaos and the harder your life actually is. All those gadgets and trinkets that are meant to make your life easier essentially make your life more difficult. These things end up being used once or twice in many cases, and then end up on a cupboard collecting dust. My goal this spring is to clear up as many drawers of unused items as possible and simplify my life. -
Roberto Arraya 4/23/2024 2:18 PMBeen focusing lately on using my dishwasher lately and reducing the amount of water I use for dishes. Not only will the environment benefit from this, but also my water bill will reduce. This money can be put to offsetting carbon, for example when traveling by air, now you can pay to offset your carbon footprint. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Roberto Arraya 4/21/2024 12:41 PMIt feels great to connect with nature. You begin to ponder about how life actually came to be, the conditions that need to exist for life and how beautiful it is. Also you appreciate the artistry of mother nature and how something so complex can be described so simply. It is our duty to protect our only home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Declutter My Home Without the LandfillHow did it feel to intentionally declutter with putting things into the landfill? What did you learn along the way about yourself and our consumer and waste systems?
Roberto Arraya 4/20/2024 12:30 PMI was surprised to learn that 1/3 of food production goes to waste. I am seriously rethinking what goes in the garbage and what can be saved to produce one more meal. -
Roberto Arraya 4/20/2024 5:04 AMSo happy to live somewhere with such good public transportations options. It reminds that I lived here many years and got to where I needed to go without a car. Things change with kids of course, but I am sure my positive contributions to the environment started before the ecochallenge. Of course I have not always have positive contributions. At least now I have awareness of my actions and can mitigate these accordingly. -
Roberto Arraya 4/19/2024 9:14 AMHeard about a natural disaster that occurred in Dubai. Massive floods caused extensive damage, in the desert! Bigest rainfall in 75 years. Makes you wonder how much of it could be connected to global warming. I definitely feel like I hear about this more and more in the news. In my view, it is not worth waiting to see if global warming is not real. We should just assume it is and do our best to prevent it.-
IULIA CADAR 4/19/2024 1:01 PMIt’s so true that the climate change and we can see also in our region. On Sunday we had 29 degrees (quite unusual for this time of year) and on Thursday we had 1 degree and snowing in the upper part of the town. The difference is huge and not our planet is feeling this but also our bodies , and can affect our health.

Roberto Arraya 4/17/2024 1:56 PMBarely had any time today, but attempted to declutter in my breaks. However, it seems I clean some and we load up again on things we really don't need. I am attempting to become more minimalist, but change is hard. No one said it would be easy though. On a bright note, I learned more about my local Green Team today.-
Alexander König 4/18/2024 12:23 AMGreat that you connected with your local Green Team, they are marvellous and very important for our journey to become a more environment friendly company!

Roberto Arraya 4/14/2024 10:18 AMAlthough I have known for a while that beef is a huge contributor to greenhouse emissions, I have yet to pull myself completely off of meat. I have however been able to reduce the amount at least of red beef that I consume. The truth is meat is convenient, but there are sufficient alternatives out there to supplant the protein one obtains from it. I have started to learn more about cooking with vegetarian meals so hopefully over time my impact is even greater.-

Roberto Arraya 4/13/2024 12:13 PMTrying decluttering as part of a spring cleaning. Interesting that this actually helps the environment. It also kind of helps your mental sanity as we as constantly surrounded by more and more things. Once you realize how much you actually have that you don't need, you begin to ask yourself if you really need the new things you are about to buy.-
Yaser Alghanmi 4/13/2024 12:24 PMI agree with this. I am in the process of decluttering my house as well.

Roberto Arraya 4/12/2024 12:52 PMPlayed footbal on an artificial turf today and it was made mostly from recycled materials and was supposed to be the environmentally friendly alternative to grass. Funny enough, all the materials use to make, even if recycled contributed to climate change. I suppose as humans, we will always have needs and fossil fuel use is not going away completely, but we should strive to give a second life to those materials which have already done their contribution. Conservation is not only about those new raw materials, but also about the materials which have undergone their cycle. That was my take for the day. Will try to put into practice the reuse of everyday things, such as glass and plastic and other materials we have around the house.
