WALK MORE DAILY
Switching to walking or cycling for more of our shorter journeys helps to protect biodiversity. It creates less noise, less air pollution, and results in fewer emissions that are warming the atmosphere.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Climate + Air
Walk More, Drive Less
Adopt to walk instead of driving or taking the public transport as much as possible. It will reduce your carbon footprint, improve your health, save cost at the same time.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Freshwater + Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Land + Forests
Minimize Paper Usage
Print documents only when necessary and use double-sided printing when feasible. Encourage digital communication and document sharing instead of printing emails.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Choose Eco-friendly Products
I will opt to use eco-friendly products.Eco-friendly products do not harm the environment or the ecology during their production, use, or disposal. It is often made of natural products, but care is taken not to harm nature, even if the raw materials are natural. E.g. biodegradable products, bamboo products, reworked clothes
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Action Track: Community
Learn About New Sustainable Practices
To allocate some time to educate ourselves on and adopt sustainable living practices by reading articles, watching documentaries, or online resources. I will also share my findings with the people around me.
Climate + Air
Clear Unnecessary Emails and Digitally Stored Files
To review inboxes and old emails or digitally store files. It’s energy saving and frees up your devices, extending their life.
Climate + Air
Switch Off/Unplug Unused Electronics
To switch off lights in unoccupied areas of the office, such as meeting rooms. Additionally, to power down computers, printers, and other electronics at the end of each workday. Unplug electronic devices and power strips at the end of the workday to prevent energy usage.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
