Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.
Climate + Air
WALK MORE DAILY
Switching to walking or cycling for more of our shorter journeys helps to protect biodiversity. It creates less noise, less air pollution, and results in fewer emissions that are warming the atmosphere.

JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Action Track: Community
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that is connected with this year's theme of Nature Conservation & Biodiversity (for example an urban park, bee hives, birds and other animals...) and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Land + Forests
Minimize Paper Usage
Print documents only when necessary and use double-sided printing when feasible. Encourage digital communication and document sharing instead of printing emails.
Climate + Air
Walk More, Drive Less
Adopt to walk instead of driving or taking the public transport as much as possible. It will reduce your carbon footprint, improve your health, save cost at the same time.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Choose Eco-friendly Products
I will opt to use eco-friendly products.Eco-friendly products do not harm the environment or the ecology during their production, use, or disposal. It is often made of natural products, but care is taken not to harm nature, even if the raw materials are natural. E.g. biodegradable products, bamboo products, reworked clothes
Action Track: Community
Learn About New Sustainable Practices
To allocate some time to educate ourselves on and adopt sustainable living practices by reading articles, watching documentaries, or online resources. I will also share my findings with the people around me.
Climate + Air
Clear Unnecessary Emails and Digitally Stored Files
To review inboxes and old emails or digitally store files. It’s energy saving and frees up your devices, extending their life.
Climate + Air
Switch Off/Unplug Unused Electronics
To switch off lights in unoccupied areas of the office, such as meeting rooms. Additionally, to power down computers, printers, and other electronics at the end of each workday. Unplug electronic devices and power strips at the end of the workday to prevent energy usage.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Shu Qi Tan 4/17/2024 6:34 PMDid you know? Singapore consumes 120,000 tonnes of seafood every year and popular seafood species consumed in Singapore are 3 out of 4 unsustainable? – WWF
We can all make an impact by choosing the seafood from certified Environmentally Friendly Seafood provider. Some of the most well-known eco-certifications and labels for seafood include the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), and the Friend of the Sea label.
Choosing locally farmed fish is a great way to ensure that your seafood is fresh, healthy, and sustainable. Some of the best eco-friendly options include barramundi, sea bass, and tilapia. – Seaco

Shu Qi Tan 4/16/2024 11:47 PMSustainable seafood is fish, shellfish, and seaweeds harvested or farmed in a manner that provides for today’s needs while allowing species to reproduce, habitats to flourish, and productive ecosystems to be available for future generations. It’s also the most environmentally efficient source of protein on the planet.
