Gautham's actions

Land + Forests

Compost Food Waste

Food in the landfill is one of the main sources of greenhouse gasses. I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Freshwater + Oceans

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

COMPLETED 3

Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning

Understanding cleaning product ingredients and their effect on water and biodiversity is helpful to our consumer choices. I will spend 20 minutes learning about how cleaning products affect our water and try making my own cleaning products to reduce pollutants.

30 for 30 in Nature

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED 25
DAILY ACTIONS

Transitioning from wasting food to composting, I notice a significant reduction in what I'm tossing. Now, peels, scraps, and leftovers are becoming valuable compost material. It's surprising how little actual waste there is. Once the compost matures, I plan to utilize it in my garden. The nutrient-rich compost will enrich my soil, enhancing the health and vitality of my plants. This shift not only benefits my garden but also significantly reduces household waste, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle. The entire process feels rewarding, knowing I'm making a positive impact on the environment and nurturing my garden in a natural, organic way.

Spending 30 minutes a day with nature has made some difference in my life. Forceful way of getting out of the routine, away from digital devices and more mindful time spent with family.
