Dimitri's actions

Action Track: Community

I will participate to the Earth Month Parade

I will participate to the Earth Month Parade in Halifax, April 20, 2pm.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

Keep My Community Clean

At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Keep my old gas car

I keep my old car (2011) and make repairs as the GHG emissions to make a new electric car are smoothen on 15 years rather that GHG emissions to make a gas car are smoothen on 10 years approximately.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Limit my displacement to limit my GHG emission

When weather is rainy or cloudy, I limit my displacement and don't go for a tour.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Participate to a training about Climate Changes

Better know all the impacts of CC in Nova Scotia. This will happen on April 24 (Earth Month Ecochallenge: Conservation & Action)

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

Education to Climate Change impacts

I will prepare and share to my colleagues a ppt slide about the lack of rules from the NS provincial government to protect people against the impacts of sea level rise.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

LEED AP ND training

I will train 4 hours a week to prepare my LEED Neighborhood Development credential.

COMPLETED 25
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Reduce Animal Products

One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 2 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Save the Bees

Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Explore My Area

When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 360 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Personal Waste Audit

The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Zero Waste Day

The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Learn About Water Justice in My Area

I will spend at least 5 minutes a day using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.

COMPLETED 23
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Visit and support wildlife and biodiversity

I visited and supported by my entrance fee the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park maintained by Ducks Unlimited Canada. This Park supports wildlife, biodiversity in rescuing injured annimals.

I think I will keep on learning on climate risks and water justice.

I'm so happy to finish this Ecochallenge. I've learned I'm not so bad on the actions I do everyday, but I could do more on advocating.

I joined the challenge to better assess my day to day actions. Some are easy but other one are harder like learning about water access justice every day.

I've updated my rhythm to study LEED ND: I do small regular trainings, every day. I think it is better than 1 big training each week.

This week and another witness of coastline erosion in Nova Scotia. Some trails near Peggies Cove have collasped into the see. We can still see some grass laying on rocks.

The Earth Month parade in Halifax was a bit to gentle to my eyes as we walked along pedestrian seaside then play and dance in a public park. Very few people should have seen this parade and understand why these people walk for the Earth.

It goes very well and I'm proud to be part of it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Personal Waste Audit
What are the results of your waste audit and what did you learn? How can you reduce your waste going forward?

I realized that the packaging represents a big volume and consumes a lot of blue plastic bags those are requested by the municipality which collect my waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Community Keep My Community Clean
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

When I do this I think people feel the same as when I see someone picking litter outside they hone: goodness.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Explore My Area
Where did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?

I went in a forest closed to my house (10min by driving). I enjoyed old trees and felt uncomfortable on area where storms already wrenched trees. You can see where storms hit and where not.
