Alessandro's actions

Land + Forests

Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper

Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. Buying products that help protect forests makes a difference. I will only purchase wood, furniture, and paper products from ecologically certified sources such as Forest Stewardship Council.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

Borrow Before I Buy

Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Choose Renewable Energy

Renewable energy options are becoming more widespread and accessible. Not only are they good for the planet, they can help save money as well. I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option. If my utility does not offer one, I will contact them to advocate for this option in the future.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Join a Cleanup Effort

I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Bike or walk instead of car!

Avoid to use car daily for connection under 5 km!

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Use Public Transit

Public transportation reduces pollution, improves community, and creates safe streets. I will use public transit 1 miles per day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.

COMPLETED 25
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Write Letters or Emails

I will gather a group of friends, family, neighbors or colleagues and write 2 letters or emails to public officials or companies to advocate for planet-friendly policies.

COMPLETED 26
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Share My "Why"

I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Sustainability Lunch and Learn

Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Calculate My Carbon Impact

Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON

I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.

Explore My Area

When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 120 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Compost Food Waste

Food in the landfill is one of the main sources of greenhouse gasses. I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.

here some example to improve air quality in Your office !!! ;-)

    1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata): This plant is known for its ability to remove toxins such as formaldehyde, xylene, toluene, and nitrogen oxides from the air. It's also low-maintenance and can thrive in low light conditions.
    2. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum): Spider plants are effective at removing pollutants like formaldehyde and xylene from indoor air. They are easy to care for and produce small white flowers, making them a popular choice for offices.
    3. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum spp.): Peace lilies are not only visually appealing with their elegant white flowers but also help to purify the air by removing toxins like formaldehyde, benzene, and ammonia. They prefer low light conditions and regular watering.
    4. Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata): Boston ferns are excellent at removing formaldehyde and xylene from the air. They thrive in humid conditions, making them ideal for environments where air conditioning may dry out the air.
    5. Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis miller): Aloe vera not only has soothing properties for burns and skin irritations but also helps to purify the air by removing formaldehyde and benzene. It requires bright, indirect light and infrequent watering.
