Nicole Denise's actions
Land + Forests
Carry My Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me this month, to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill. I will post on the feed my reflections, conversations, and actions I will take moving forward.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Biodiversity and Me
I will spend at least 45 minutes each day researching what biodiversity is, how biodiversity positively impacts our world, and how the loss of biodiversity harms it. I will share what I learn on the feed.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Climate + Air
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 35 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Freshwater + Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 2 hours in my community.
Action Track: Community
ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINAR
On Wed 24th April, I will attend the Earth Month Ecochallenge Webinar on Conservation to learn about what individuals, companies and other organizations can do to promote biodiversity and nature protection.
Action Track: Community
JOIN OR CREATE A GREEN TEAM AT EMERSON
I will continue to contribute to Emerson's environmental sustainability goals beyond April by learning more about the Global Green Teams Network, joining a team near me, or maybe even creating a new team.
Action Track: Community
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ON SUSTAINABILITY AT EMERSON
I will sign up to the Sustainability Aficionados distribution list to receive global news on sustainability at Emerson, including world news and Greening OF, BY, and WITH news.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Nicole Denise MB 4/21/2024 5:49 PMMy earth month ecochallenge 2024: conservation is going pretty well, actually. Constantly committing into small tasks and fulfilling daily targets like going out into nature and picking up trash along the walks that I didn't realize that its becoming a habit. Also, its fascinating to feel refreshed or have that happy feeling coming from a walk. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Explore My AreaWhere did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?
Nicole Denise MB 4/16/2024 7:57 PMI hike Mt. Pinatubo and also do walking within our neighborhood. I can attest that by doing so, I have found ways to elevate some of my stress and its also an opportunity for me to move / stretch my body.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Join a Cleanup EffortHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel? What results did you see? Please consider posting a photo of your cleanup!
Nicole Denise MB 4/16/2024 7:54 PMIt was fulfilling to participate on the Emerson x WWF clean up drive. At the same time it is sad and alarming to think; that there were already clean up efforts prior to us, that there were 8 groups in our activity, and yet our team still managed to collect 8 sacks of almost 40 kg of waste. Which only means that there are more out there washing up on every shoreline. Nonetheless, with these kinds of drive, there's still hope for a better future.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Nicole Denise MB 4/16/2024 7:45 PMJoined a clean up drive activity with our company (Emerson partnered with WWF. Our team managed to collect 8 sacks of different trash by the shoreline. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Nicole Denise MB 4/16/2024 7:36 PMI went hiking with my friend over the weekend and spent some time in nature without internet connection and it was indeed refreshing. Being and living in the moment at the same time learning from the locals about Mt. Pinatubo and life there. I am really thinking of doing this every month and consistently strive to go out and about with nature or even help mom in our mini garden.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Sustainability Lunch and LearnWho did you engage in your lunch and learn? What resources did you use? How did it go and what did you learn?
Nicole Denise MB 4/12/2024 12:57 AMAs I reflect on eco-challenges, I thought of what better learnings to easily have other than engaged a sit down conversation with my mother whom have been growing a mini garden at an open lot within our community. I have learned that on the course of her 2 years gardening, it somehow helped the flooding problem on the streets near our area in Marikina. She also got to grow vegetables and fruits that we give out to our neighbors. It was also fascinating to hear and see the birds taking shed on the mulberry tree and even chirping while eating the fruits. When months back, there were nothing for them to take shelter on if its hot or raining outside. In my moms simple way, I have realized a lot.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Nicole Denise MB 4/12/2024 12:29 AMVolunteering help me understand the needs of the community. It pushes you to take action on what could help the ecosystem in a simplest of ways that you wouldn't even have thought will make an impact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community ATTEND THE ECOCHALLENGE CONSERVATION WEBINARWhat did you learn in the webinar? Did anything surprise you?
Nicole Denise MB 4/11/2024 12:03 AMI took away from the Earth Month: Biodiversity and Nature Conservation webinar that even in times of crisis, like the pandemic, people can come up with readily apparent solutions to problems and lend a helping hand to others. That there are plenty of organizations driven by a cause which we can participate and at the same time learn from.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Nicole Denise MB 4/10/2024 11:56 PMI got to understand that even with the seemingly minute decisions I take throughout my daily mundane life, I can still make an impact.
