Mankirat's actions

Land + Forests

Plant Trees

Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 5 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Cooking Oil Disposal

Pouring cooking oil down the drain can cause damage to waterways and ecosystems. I will learn how to properly dispose of cooking oil to help support healthy ecosystems.

COMPLETED 28
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Low Carbon Diet

Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.

Participating in the cooking oil disposal challenge, I was surprised by how much oil I actually use and how quickly it accumulates. Before, I hadn't realized the volume of oil waste generated from cooking. I found that I use more oil than I thought, especially when frying or sautéing. This experience has made me more mindful of my oil usage and has motivated me to find ways to reduce it in my cooking routines.

To reduce my carbon footprint, I'll eat less beef, lamb, cheese, processed meats, and tropical fruits, opting instead for plant-based proteins like beans and lentils, poultry, plant-based dairy alternatives, locally grown vegetables and fruits, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and root vegetables. These choices have lower carbon footprints and can still provide the necessary nutrients for a balanced diet.
